I knew it! The only way someone could write something as massive as Atlas Shrugged was by being tweaked.

moloch I think your question is largely irrelevent, neurotoxicity does not equate into cognative impairment. Just look at alcohol consumption, there is no uncertainty about its neurotoxicity, yet moderate use has seemingly no effects on cognition beyond accute intoxication. And although amphetamine is also neurotoxic it seems to have little in the way of cognitive impairment for those who use as prescribed (ie less than 30 mg's a day). MDMA on the other hand has definitive cognitive impairment on users. Now its impossible for anyone to tell you how many pills you can munch before there will be trouble, every persons genetics, metabolism, and susceptability to side effects is vastly different. All I can say for certain is that amphetamine and methylphenidate in prescribed doses will get you very high and cause minimal impairment if you use infrequently.
I don't think amphetamines are necessary for a mathematician over 30 years of age. Look at, as an example, John von Neumann, who in my opinion gave to the world more than Paul Erdös. If John von Neumann did not die prematurely at the age of 53, the next, say, 30 years of his work would change the whole world similarly as his work done until his death did. Further, Paul Erdös suffered from a severe personality disorder that might be attributed to his amphetamine use. Arguably the three greatest mathematicians ever living, i.e., Carl Friedrich Gauss, Leonhard Euler and Bernhard Riemann certainly didn't use amphetamines. And again the age and even total blindness wasn't an obstacle for Euler to his massive gargantuous productivity. But generally I am enthusiastic about the possibilities of neuropharmacological cognitive enhancement.

Hi,
Im a thoretical physics student at one of the best universitys in the country so presurving my brain is a huge priority of mine. I was wondering if MDMA and cocaine are nurotoic if used infrequantly and at a moderate dose.
Obviously takeing drugs once or twice a month wont cause any serious impairment but im interested in whether this is because at that frequency of use the damage is minimal or because there is no damage.
Also is there any way of reducing brain damage caused by said drugs.
Deprenyl can be used in low doses when using MDMA.(*)
