Hi guys,

I have currently been on an SSRI called sertraline for around a week now. I stopped taking it 2 days ago due to my sister having a bad time on them which put him off.

Last night I had a small amount of cocaine and it made me really anxious and I think he had a bit of a panic attack which was probably due to not being in a relaxed envrionment. This has caused a quite uncomfortable tight chest pain. I had a few benzos which has given some temporary relief but then it returns.

Do you think if I have took the SSRI's again then this will help with the chest pains? I am considering going to the doctor to see if there is anything he can give me. I am not really sure what to tell the doctor though, I would just rather say it was a panic attack, I doen't want to mention having taken any stimulants.

Does anyone have experience with visitng the doctor about chest pains due to panic attacks and what was the outcome? I understand they'll probably give me some benzos but is there any alternative to ask for as he would rather not take them.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

We don;t SWIM here.

Discontinuing a SSRI suddenly to do cocaine is a dumb idea... you shouldn't have stopped taking your SSRI without consulting your doctor first. SSRI discontinuation produces some nasty withdrawal effects.

Yeah I know it is. I tried to search online to see if anyone had any affects from stopping it after only being on it for about 7 days and found nothing so highly doubted there would be any WD effects but could be wrong. All the information I found was about people suffering from the withdrawals but they'd been taken them for long perioids 3+ months atleast.

Cocaine can cause chest pain because it's a nonselective voltage gated sodium channel blocker. Sufficiently blocking Nav1.5 will cause cardiac arrest.

In general, stimulants don't cause chest pain at sane doses. High doses of most stimulants can cause myalgia and eventually rhabdomyolysis though.
