I am in the process of coming off effexor and even after taping down over 3 weeks from 75mg a day I am getting bad a bad withdrawl from it.
Electric shocks every time I take a step, or sometimes muching the beat of my heart for a few beats and ANGER, I feel right on the dge of exploding over nothing things. Memory loss, inability to concentrate, confusion, Fharked!

Anyway, just wanted to share that I got onto the crystal meth last night and it totally got rid of the shocks which were the worst part and helped my mood of course but did make me a little bit erratic I think. But no anger.

I'm on my second day on crystal now and as usual it is not working as well but so far no shocks. I did some research on the net and others say that Benedryl (aka DXM, DO NOT MIX WITH SSRI's!!!) helps alot as well as lecithin choline and b complex.

Anyone have any thoughts about using DXM for this purpose?

I am waiting to get past the worst of it then I will start roboxetine which I am hoping will help my ADD as well as my depression.

Any questions, comments, abuse?

DXM is an SSRI, you might as well take your effexor...

Meanwhile, meth? For SSRI comedown? Sounds like a bad idea to me... you're meth comedown is gonna be bad I bet.

Sigh, yeah, I just thought if I keep myself wasted until the worst of the shocks pass..... :(

I've had some DXM, at first it felt good but now I have shocks again a bit and am hell sleepy.......zzzzzzz

get yourself a case of victory golden monkey and forget about it.

ssri withdrawl sucks, bad. don't potentiate it with dissociatives.

I just went through this myself going off of an SSNRI..I'm soooo sorry to hear that you are feeling like this :\ It absolutely SUCKS!

I took 100 mgs of 5-htp in two 50mg divided doses every day for two weeks. This seemed to reduce the severity and frequency of the shocks for me, you should try it! ;) I'm now off the 5-htp and have not been shocked in a week! :D

Edit; I DID NOT start taking the 5-htp until I stopped my ssnri completely. I was going through bad withdrawls anyway just tapering, so i just quit taking it all together.

Try mirtazapine. it increases the firering rate of seratonin or noradrenaline neurons.

my best mate is on it, and he LOVES it. He has had ADD all this life, and mirtazapine totally makes him 'normal' in my observations. the only side effect is weight gain and a bit of sedation in the morning, as you take it at night after dinner. You have the best sleeps ever.

mirtazapine and effexor both set of your opiate receptors a bit too, according to pubmed, the only anti-depressions that do that beside mianserin.

It may have just been a slight typo, but just to clarify, Benadryl is not "aka DXM." It is diphenhydramine, an anti-histamine. Not really related to DXM at all, I don't believe. But nonetheless, diphenhydramine may be beneficial for SSRI/SNRI "discontinuation symptoms," as it does tend to make you a bit groggy and lethargic in moderate doses.

I recently got off paxil, and 5-htp got rid of the shocks for me too, i'm still taking it cuz it makes me feel like eating less, so i cab drop the wieght i gained from the paxil.
by the way wellbutrin also ups your nonephrine and dopamine levels(the above mentioned "opiate receptors" )
basicaly it does the same thing for those two receptors that SSRI's do for seritonin, with no horrid withdrawal
--what's wrong with you guys i noticed that benadryl thin right away.

Excuse me for being an idiot (if thats the case)

But i am coming off aropax and its painful. Try and get some benzo's from the doc... they sort thins out ImMEDIAtLEY

No, there is definetly a varient of benidryl with DXM in it. I walked into the pharmacy and had had a big chat about it, asked to look it up in her MIMS, freaks them out when you know too much haha.

Good news is shocks have passed, just had a massive weekend, pills, crystal, etoh, and have started on Reboxetine now. Makes me sooooo drowsy, I hope it passes. Making my ADHD worse not better, oh well, time will tell I guess

I'm currently coming off Effexor cold turkey.. I did some 2CI the other night and it just intensified my feeling of wanting to get the shit out of my body. The zaps suck :) Quitting Zoloft was way harder though.

^^^ Can't you just ween yourself off it? That's what I did with Aropax. Discontinuing aropax suddenly is bizarre. You could blood pressure spikes that give you head rushes. And anger and a need to just lash out. And confusion. But the wierdest of all is the physical stuff.

When I came off Zoloft, I tapered it down. It's kind of like using a nicotine patch to quit smoking. The zaps and dizzyness are reduced a bit, but really drawn out. I quit Effexor two weeks ago, and the ill effects are completely gone. It's all about realizing WHY you needed them to begin with :)
