This is NOT a raver board.
No where does it say that social is for ravers to discuss rave things, that meetups is for rave events, and that drug discussion is in relation to raves... but to a lot of people it seems that Bluelight and Raves go hand in hand.
It's quite ironic that "ravers" always go on about how the scene is not just about the drugs, yet a lot of people think that a drug board is actually a rave board. ;)
I'm not saying that this is NOT the place to discuss rave things, and that meetups is no longer to be used for raves. In fact I'm not asking anyone to change the way they post at all! I just think that it's important to have in the back of your mind that there are people here that don't give two shits about raves.
Just remember that not everyone likes electronic music, not everyone wears phat pants and fluffy shit, and not everyone lives for the weekend... :)
This is just a rant (and probably the 5th one of it's kind recently), but it seems that this is the general theme at the moment and that we've entered into another "take shit seriously" phase... so fuckit, I want my whinge too... :D
Oldskool -vs- Nuskool ---> Round 1 ---> FIGHT!!! :D

ffs..all this talk about people no longer using bluelight for the right reasons...WHO ARE THEY??? Name names so I know who to direct flames at please.
Perhaps a bluelight shame thread? Shame shame shame.

...And its quite amusing (to me at least) that while a lot of people are being serious at the moment, I really couldn't care less...
But anyway, listen to Pleo, 'cos I certainly couldn't be bothered saying it all... I'll just add that my current apathy is a direct result of reasons for so many of the serious threads about the state of bluelight that have popped up lately...
*goes out and buys a surfboard* ('cos what else am I gonna do when I cbf doing anything else ;) ...and hey, Pleo said to ride the wave... :p)

I've got my own idea about what bluelight is, and i agree 100% with pleo that it's not just a raver board. The only problem is that my explaination is rather longwinded. So how does one succintly explain to somebody in a club, party, wherever, who has no fucking idea what bluelight is. I think this is where the whole moniker of the raver board arises from, primarily because so many BLs are ravers. Thoughts?

Bluelight isn't a rave board...and never has been.
I'm suffering the same apathy that has struck Tars down right now. And I think you're right tarsy...I don't care much right now cause so many people do! And the more people whinge about bluelighters having a bad name, and that bluelight isn't being used for the original purpose anymore, that I become less and less inclined to want to call myself a bluelighter. :(
sad really.

i agree with tars and miss apple about the apathy.
[rant]
this whole "lets get serious" trend is becoming so cyclic and passe. once a while u have someone start a thread, we all have a big fucking fuss, heaps of discussions and then after 2 weeks it all dies away.
get over it.
bluelight is not a fucking fraternity or club we all join, get a badge, and shout out to the world about. what's there to be proud OR ashamed of? this is a forum board for christ's sake. we come together, contribute to discussion threads, we (hpefully) leave this place with useful (and perhaps, lifesaving) information that is spread.
i for one am sick of reading these threads over the course of my time on bluelight. we are all (hpefully) normal people who function in society, if we had apply our code of day-to-day conduct to what we do online and what we do at parties, ie, exercise some fucking discretion, there would be no need for these threads or reminders from moderators. thats what moderators have been advising posters for ages, show some fucking common sense. if u dont have any, being a bluelighter would be the least i would worry about.
true these threads bring a certain awareness to other users but if i am the way i am, i will remain so, im not gonna get an epiphany and suddenly decide to be the "model bluelighter".
[/rant]
pfffffffffft

---Recipe for Aus Social Drama---
1) Someone starts a serious thread relating to the people or the way they post
2) Most people agree, one person disagrees allowing everyone else who disagrees to become vocal.
3) It's thrashed out in thesis length posts
4) A series of spin off threads are started evoking similar responses
5) At this point someone steps in and tells everyone not to take things so seriously
6) Someone agrees with that sentiment, and points out that this has been happening for ages
7) After two weeks of intense debate, the threads drop of the first page and everyone forgets it even happened.
3 - 4 months later, return to step one and repeat. :)
(Oh, and by the way, this post qualifies for step 6 ;) )

LOL@Pleo.
Now I understand that bluelight is primarily not a rave board. I don't even classify myself as a raver, I occasionaly have been seen wearing phat pants and kandie, but not too often.
The cardinal rule of the internet.
If you don't like it, the door is right over to your left with the big flashing sign sayind 'EXIT'.
;)
Lately I notice far far too many people taking shit way too seriously, it's just life, its not some kind of fucking university degree, or education. You're not being marked. So chill out and take yourselves a LOT less seriously, especially the whole "Oh we're BLUELIGHTERS, we gotta protect our IMAGE" thing.
That is all. ;)

Now, I'm not a rant type person and I doubt that I'm going to start now, but here are a few things that I'd like to bring up...
The reason that the "raver" tag (in my opinion) as been attached to this site is one of demographics.
This is a harm minimisation page, and there is an empahsis on the use of MDMA. MDMA is a drug associated with the "rave" scene. Thus, people who want info on MDMA would either be recommended to go to or stumble across Bluelight. Thus there are a large amount of people who come onto Bluelight with a previous history of attending a rave and/or taking MDMA.
Thus the background of the person who also finds likeminded people has caused Bluelight to evolve (or devolve?) into what it is today.
This is neither a good thing or a bad thing, the fact of the matter is we all come here to share in something we have commonley experienced, be it the chemical rush of that lurvley tryptamine, the heady thrill of a flawless set, the complete confusion and fear when a friend has pushed their body to the limits and (if only) you knew what you can and should've done. It doesn't matter the fact is we're all here now and there is a sense of community. We can deny this is a "rave" site, but we can't deny that there is a common thread that binds us all together.
*Takes a huge toke of the Universal Spliff of togetherness*
Now, think about what this board would be like if it was a "Goth" site, and quit your whinging. There are worse fates the chaotic mess that is the internet can throw our way.

1)Someone starts thread
2)Pleo locks it ;) (Couldnt resist ;) )
In all seriousness, Pleo and some nameless others, I think youre taking this Bluelight thing a bit seriously. This is here for enjoyment, remember? This board has *no physical presence*!
I see some people getting all worked up, and I see very little to support them being so worked up.
Ravers, non ravers, who cares?? The fact is that this board was popularised by ravers, and still is. To complain about them is to bite the feeding hand. I havent even seen anything about raves on here to annoy me, and I'm on here a LOT.

Thankyou, Yoda.
It's not just Pleo. I think that about 2/3 of the regular posters take Bluelight too seriously. A perfect example is how grey Aus Social has been beoming lately.

Well I've completely given up on taking Bluelight seriously (at least this small sector of it, I'll always take Drug Discussion seriously), so hey, there's one less person to make Bluelight all dull and dreary...

[yoda] Begun, the Bluelight Wars have... [/yoda]
Yeah well, I write thesis length shit because I'm very, very bored 7:30am-12:30pm monday-friday. And usually only on monday and tuesday anyway :P (IT School).
If I was true to the impression I guess I tend to emit online then at parties I wouldnt fuck off on my own for 10 hours at a time .. Heeeeyyyyy tis just a message board :)

Agreed. Bluelight is indeed composed of a wide variety of people, but one thing we had in common was Drugs and Harm Minismization.

Every time I get accused of taking Bluelight too seriously it reminds me of when I was back in year 8 and you were a "square" or "nerd" if you put effort in and got a good mark for an assignment...
I've got a job to do, and I'll take it as seriously as the job needs to be taken. Would you prefer I really didn't care? Not blowing my own trumpet too much, but if we (the mods) went away or stopped caring totally this place would be fucked beyond repair within a month.
It's times like this that I get real fucking close to giving modding away (especially social), because if I'm going to put the effort in and then have that very effort accused of being somehow a bad thing, then I don't know why I bother...
Oh, and

to Tarsy... thanks dude... :)
