Snowboarding technique tips

^ this is poor advice.

while there are times on a snowboard where you may be more extended or have your weight more downhill, in isolation this is terrible advice. if you ride regular and you are traversing across the hill on your heel edge, what's going to happen if you lean downhill?

everything in snowboarding is built on the foundation of a balanced, athletic stance. sure, you may stand taller in certain circumstances e.g. extending during the control phase of a turn to keep pressure on your edge but standing tall limits your range of movement and also raises your center of mass which makes you less stable - both of which will restrict your riding.

intherapy82, how's it going?

sorry, I was talking about going pretty much straight downhill and linking turns together. as an advanced beginner, I figured OP would be doing this by now, but I should have specified. it feels very counterintuitive to lean downt he mountain when going straight downhill, but you will have much more control when you do.

if you are going "pretty much straight downhill" then you aren't really turning or you are making such large-radius, open turns that your turn is barely controlling your speed.

that said, committing weight downhill is a factor but simply saying "lean downhill" in isolation is as likely to hinder as help.
