After a methadone taper and initial withdrawl where sleep was absent for 4 days…I started sleeping a solid 4 or 5 hours a night for about 10 days. Now at day 13 I find it impossible to sleep again.

I fear I may have also had diazepam dependency as ppl here have told me my usage of it at 10 or 15 mg 2X per week was enough to become dependent.

During the first week of methadone withdrawl I took the 10 mg diazepam on days 4 and 7.

I don’t feel any worsening withdrawl symptoms over all….they are all letting up but the sleep has worsened the past two days.

It’s easy to panic and think ill never sleep again normally without pills.

Someone give it to me straight here even if it’s bad news.

That sounds more like PAWS than necessarily acute withdrawal… but methadone (& diazepam) can linger for a while in the body so maybe you’re only really fully sober now. I would not freak out about one night regardless. But you may need to do a taper with something to help you sleep. I’d recommend using something that you don’t enjoy so that you’re not inclined to overuse it.

10 or 15mg of diazepam 2x a week seems very unlikely to cause dependence. Maybe if you're crazy predisposed to benzo dependency.

The insomnia may go away it may not, how long has it been since you were free of dependencies and how did you sleep back then?

Personally i always had bouts of insomnia before the downers so now, after them, I still do. Physically exhausting myself usually helps but not always. Eventually the tiredness wears me down enough that I fall back into a healthy sleep cycle for a while then the cycle begins anew.

Just keep trying bro you're through the worst bit already. I know it sucks when you can't sleep but a lot of us get insomnia. Don't panic

I learned that overhinking insomnia issues makes it worse. Lying in bed trying to fall asleep at all because for some reason you think you have to sleep doesn't help.
When it happens to me, I tey to find something tthat keeps me occupied and helps me relax.

Sometimes I feel like sleeping after an hour or two, sometimes I don't. When I can't go sleep I adapt my next day in a way that I dont have to do stuff that's stressful or too exciting, or which demands full alertness (ok, I have meds for cases like that).
A nd I always try to not give in to the urge to nap, so that when night comes I can give sleep another try.

I can not imagine that; that little and taken sporadically that Valium would produce any sort of withdrawal, Especially if you weren't using it for years.

Trazodone: Was given to me by my doctor. He said do want 25mg or 50mg, that older antidepressant without SSRI and other antidepressant issues actually really works.

People using it for an antidepressant use hundreds or mgs to get that effect. However, I said fine to 50 mg( It is the same copay as 25 mgs and I have a pill spilter.

Anyways I didn't think is was going to work ; and I tried it. I waited somewhere between 1/2 and one hour. I wasn't drowsy but went to bed and was out in under 5 minutes.

I have battled insomnia, and other than passing out for various reasons this stuff actually worked for me. I didn't think it would and would normally never touch an antidepressant. But this was different and such a low dose 50mgs.
I admit I only use sporadically because of my fear of anti-depressants.

To help with sleep look into NSDR protocols
(Non sleep deep reset)

It can help with mental and physical restoration from sleep deprivation and insomnia

A lot of people to find trazodone very helpful for sleep.

Id say not bad news at all lucid dreamer

You’re gonna recover. You’ll get some good sleep soon. Just suffer through what’s on your plate. One of these nights you’ll get great sleep.

Just don’t take any diphenhydramine or antihistamines.

Remember the coin is pain. Your sleepless nights are part of the cost. It will get better soon

Just keep staying the course you are on!!! The insomnia almost broke me when I would detox off heroin. Methadone obviously has a longer half-life and so the withdrawal symptoms linger and ebb and flow again.

I remember my second week. I slept maybe 5 hours a couple nights and then barely at all on other nights. It is definitely a process and though I hated hearing that 'I didn't become addicted overnight', so I can't recover
as quickly, it is true. Sleep does come. Keep moving forward, it does get easier. I'm 4 months out from opiate addiction and it is the MOST FREEING feeling ever.

Best of luck👍

I did get solid sleep last night of about 6 hours that wasn’t too hard to fall asleep.

I agree with @Jnowhere. Don’t be spazzy, get some trazzy. It does work and most providers are happy to give it. The effects of coming off methadone can go on for a while, and insomnia can certainly be debilitating.

Do you mean Trazodone will help with the sleep ?🙏

gotta say kudos to you
I am at 12.5mgs and scared to go much lower.
Wake up at 3am; wanting to be asleep till noon; so hard not to give in
But its kinda a silly head trip to be distressed upon the notion of simply being conscious....
Yet it happens to me time and again. Seasonally it gets better; waiting for it to get light to go skate; aint gonna be frozen or snowy too often

Going from 10 to 1 was harder than 1 to 0 for me. But I did it fast over the course of two weeks
