Before you move the thread mods, this thread does apply to basic drug studies as a number of changes in the brain seem to occur while sleep deprived.

Is sleep deprivation something that can be done twice a week safely?

I am bipolar and my sleeping is all over the place. Yesterday i woke up at 4 pm and i am currently up since then planning on staying up till 12am or so.

usually get up around 2-4 pm lately.

Could this be a sleep scheduale i could maintain for the 2 months without health issues?

I feel alot better while deprived, my anxiety diminishes drastically as does my depression. Then when i finally do go to bed i can do so without the need to eat and actually feel that tired relaxed muscle feeling that i seemed to normally have in the past often.

Any amount of sleep deprivation is unhealthy, IMO, but I know how you feel about sleep deprivation. It's actually seems nice for a while...

Small amounts seem to have little negative effect - but chronic heavy sleep deprivation is linked to all sorts of mental, physical and psychological issues.

I'm going to move this over to Healthy Living as I think that's the best place for it...at least for now. BDD is Basic Drug Discussion, not Basic Drug Studies

BDD-->HL

Some people only sleep 4 hours a night, some people need 12 hours - everyone is different.

There's no way to tell but I wouldn't recommend it, about two years ago my sleep was totally messed up because of uni exams. I'd stay up for over 24 hours and then sleep over 12 hours the next day. It's okay as a one-off but doing it regularly will destroy your cycle and it gave me some pretty bad anxiety.

Are you aware of the concept of "sleep hygiene"?

I guess it's individual, as has been mentioned, but something that struck me is how it's been mentioned in this thread how deprivation seems nice/healthy. I have to agree, though mostly in the early morning hours. Say if you've been up all night, the clock's already 5 in the morning, sun's not up yet, and you just think "screw jt", and brew a cup of coffee and try to get on with the day. Now for me, these early hours of the day makes me almost hyper, a very spiritually cleansing feeling if you can call it that, where music, ideas etc. seems so much more clear and interesting and glowing than if you'd have just woken up from some hours of sleep. I don't know if this is what you mean by it, but it's something I've personally noticed. Don't have a clue why that happens, tho.

ok i appreciate the help!

Yeah, sounds more like a nocturnal schedule than it is sleep deprivation.

You might just be a more nocturnal person, and being forced into a daytime routine for too long causes mental irritation.
