Stimulants Shakiness and low blood sugar on Vyvanse

Hello everyone,

I'm prescribed 40 mg/Vyvanse a day. I sometimes get an unpleasant physical sensation of shakiness and weakness, like having a low blood sugar.

I am in fact a Type 1 (insulin dependent) diabetic and it's identical to how I feel when hypoglycemic, except I will check my blood glucose level and find it's fine or even a bit elevated. So my sugar level shouldn't be causing those effects.

I feel repulsed by food on Vyvanse, but I have read it's important to eat small amounts throughout the day to stay healthy and avoid weakness. Does anybody else get these sensations (maybe one of you happens to be diabetic too)? Also, do you have suggestions for a good day-long diet to counteract the trembling, without forcing me to eat a lot and feel nauseated?

Thanks in advance!

I am on Adderall, and ya eating is not at the top of your list, I tend to do ensure or some other drink like that to keep me going, as far as the shaking and your blood levels are normal i would say its just the speed type down side of these types of drugs, but this is just IMO, i have only been on it for a few months now.

Morning!

How long have you been Vyvanse if I may ask, and has this been going on the whole time? It may be a good idea to mention it to your doctor. Unfortunately I can't comment on the diabetic portion of it as I have no experience with that.

In my experience with Vyvanse, food is hardly on the mind. As you have read it is very important to have some sort of diet even though you don't feel much hunger. Of course I'd recommend healthy foods, fruits / veggies, all that great stuff. Maybe at least some small snacks like a sliced apple.
What is probably a good idea is the more meals smaller meals type diet as opposed to traditional 3 meals a day if you know what I mean.

Just for HR I have to add again that I do not have experience with the diabetic requirements on blood sugar and eating and all that, so please take any of the above advice with a grain of salt. I know it isn't much and doesn't totally answer your question, just a little bit of thinking in my experience taking Vyvanse (40 and 50mg / day over period of years). A full night of sleep is also a great help to your general health.. I have heard of several people that have trouble sleeping if they take their daily Vyvanse even as early as like 10 or 10:30 am.

Thanks for the helpful responses! If it's just a side effect of stimulants I really hope I get used to it since it trips me out every time thinking my sugar's crashing.

As far as avoiding low blood sugar goes, you eat a moderate amount of carbohydrates, so I'd probably get some vegetables with some fruit and maybe good whole grain bread for carbs.

Thanks again to both of you.
