My friend who is hypersexual and honestly a bit of a sex addict with poor boundaries raised an interesting point recently. In his ideal world, humans could have sex in public and it wouldn't be a big deal, anymore than kissing in public or eating in public. I thought: of course YOU want that, because it would work awesomely for someone like you who would be getting what he wants. I did consider his idea though.

I then reflected on the fact that pretty much every culture around the world thinks public sex is taboo.

My reasoning against it: the first thing I thought of is that children shouldn't be exposed to adults having sex, but I used to think the same thing about adult nudity and now I don't. I have been to nude beaches which are child friendly and it's not really a big deal. The children seem happy. But sex is different. Children don't understand such adult themes and it could be damaging to expose them prematurely.

The next thing I thought of is... the human sex drive is very powerful but also vulnerable. Not everyone wants to be exposed to sex and possibly turned on when they don't want to be. On the other hand, the same can be said for almost anything else. Someone might not like being turned on by seeing someone in swim wear, but is that really the swim wear person's problem?

If it's between two consenting adults, why should it matter?

For me personally, public sex is triggering because I have sexual trauma. My friend who thought of this is an attractive, white male with no trauma and mountains of privilege who can get laid whenever he wants. Of course such a world would work for him. He's also an exhibitionist.

We both agreed that maybe in a world where society's sexual wounds are healed and the human body isn't so shamed, public sex could work. But I still don't feel right about that.

Even in an ideal world where nobody has sexual wounds, I don't like this idea... but I can't quite pinpoint why. I mean, shitting is normal too but we mostly conceal that from one another. Even in the poor countries I've been to, people try their best to partition things off, and if they can't it's only because they're too poor to build structures. Most people prefer to shit in private. Just like most people prefer to have sex in private.

What say you?
 
I also like a bit of exhibitionism, but it's still contained... like, other people seeing me in a specific space, not the whole world.

To me, this is a boundaries issue, and only someone who has poor boundaries would think unlimited freedom to have public sex is a good idea. I don't care if two people consented. I didn't consent to see them. But then, I obviously have some taboos around sex. But then, surely there is something to be said for the public vs. the private. Why have privacy at all? Why enforce privacy for some acts?

When I think about it deeper, only a small group of people in our society are true exhibitionists around sex. Most aren't. This idea that it could work in an ideal world where there are no sexual wounds and people respect freedom -- it doesn't make sense to me. No such world will ever exist because everyone doesn't view sex the same way. Am I wrong?

The more I think about it, the more I think my friend has shitty boundaries and that's why it makes sense to him.
 
I think it'd be cool to have sex parks or some other designated area for adult themes like that. I'm not really phased by anything, but I am concerned about sanitation in public places. I don't want to step in shit, piss or cum. I mean who knows with some people?

So yea my idea is idyllic and I don't have a real solution to realize it fairly. Maybe it'd work outside a city, possibly in a remote area. I also worry about people going to such a place to rape somebody but that's a concern everywhere in my opinion
 
The point of public sex is the excitement of doing something taboo and possibly being caught. If it was no longer taboo and everyone was doing it, or there was a sex park where everyone was doing it, that would take away the thrill which is the entire point.

Makes no logical sense.
 
I think it'd be fun, like out in the snow making snowmen or whatever. Of course an open meadow would be nice too, hehe

For these reasons i feel like public sex is less taboo than it is with most people. And i think sex should be celebrated as love making etc etc

I've had sex in public and at workplaces and other places maybe viewed as taboo. The main thrilling part was the possibility of a stranger or person catching us being so naughty. One time a woman i worked with just pushed me into a corridor in a storage area and started blowing me it was fantastic and i got so turned on by how adventurous she was. I would hate this world. I have zero desire to see random people having sex in public and you just know this is gonna be abused by pervy men.

In addition to that, and the sexual abuse issues you brought up, which I also agree with, I would also add that in regards to children. Children are not generally sexual beings until puberty, there's ample evidence that it's bad for them to be involved in sexual matters too early.

And while nudity isn't inherently sexual... Sex obviously is.

So yea no. I hate this idea, I don't wanna see people having sex when I go out to get food or whatever, I don't think it would be good for children and I think it would have lots of negative side consequences.

All that said. I see no reason whatsoever people shouldn't be able to create a kind of, shall we say adults only theme park perhaps, a large area where people can have sex in public areas in a controlled fashion for those that opt in.

That seems like the ideal compromise to me. And while I wouldn't wanna go there, I'd happily vote for other people to be able to.
 
Just because I've had sex on an intercity bus as it was speeding down the highway doesn't mean I think it's a great idea. I mean, it was at the time but it's just poor form. Or the time I tried fucking my gf in amongst the clothing racks at a clothing shop that was full of people. Just don't. What saved me was the tea I was holding in my hand....couldn't manage all the clothing between the two of us well enough.

It wasn't the thrill of getting caught or any of that either.....just had to go right then. Young and all that, I guess.

The reasons for why it's a terrible idea have been mentioned and I second them all. Never again.....I hope.
