Serotonin syndrome's lasting impact?

Aside from being potentially lethal, what lasting effects can a case of serotonin syndrome leave you with?

I'm guessing more pronounced neurotoxicity (than if you took the same combination of drugs that caused the serotonin syndrome but not enough to actually do so) is a given?

Fortunately it is a rare medical condition, even among MDMA users.
But I find it quite interesting that many of the symptoms of SS mirror those of the standard MDMA experience.
The difference is degree.

It could be argued that MDMA induces a mild version of serotonin syndrome each time it is taken.
And only on occasion does it reach the point of medical crisis.

Indeed, most cases of serotonin syndrome that are caused by medications do NOT result in long-term medical problems.
About half of them can be treated with 'supportive' care alone - defined as removing the offending medication, lowering body temperature, giving a saline IV, and waiting.

More than half of them see a resolution of their symptoms within 24 hours of hospitalization, but others will experience 'delirium' for days after.
Some report muscle pain and weakness for months, while the more extreme cases can end up with a variety of life-altering bodily and mental consequences.

Including:

Altered intestinal motility
Gastroparesis
Altered thermal regulation
Dysautonomia
Paralysis/aphasia from stroke
Insomnia and changes in sleep architecture
Visual disturbances and tinnitus
Anhedonia and sexual dysfunction
Drop in testosterone and rise in estrogen
Periods of hyperprolactinemia followed by a long-term/permanent drop
Neurological Sequalae

I'm sure there are a few I'm forgetting.
And I agree with your statement that a single Serotonin Syndrome occurrence can represent a MUCH higher level of damage similar to that seen from 'typical' MDMA use.

It is important to restate this - 'typical' MDMA use, absent serotonin syndrome or acute reaction, will eventually lead to varying degrees of the above symptoms. Time after time researchers have seen evidence of long-term consequences among moderate and heavy MDMA users.
This is not surprising since MDMA cause a massive release of serotonin that is seen in NO medically approved treatment or medication.
