Ive always wondered why i . have such a fascination with the dark side. The first website on my browser to pop is bluelight and then i go str8 to the dark side. In the past i did alot of drug and went wild in college. I graduated school and lifes been pretty good now. But what is it that makes me have to check the darkside so so often. Is that sayin something about the type of person I am ?

all i know about what type of person you are is from what you have written, so if this is such a serious question perhaps you shouldn't ask complete strangers who know nothing about you, and ask the person who knows the most about who you really are(you..)

^^ That is a good point, but perhaps I could elaborate a bit further.

bignig, WHY do you come to The Dark Side? Is it because you're interested in the problems other people are facing? Is it because you like to see people seeking help? Is it because it reminds you of the difficulties you faced when you were taking drugs in your college days? Or do you perhaps just have a personal interest in psychology and/or the problems people face with drugs?

We need more info dude :)

Either way, I am glad TDS has sparked an interest in you, and hope you can get something out of it, and likewise perhaps give something back to others from your own personal experiences.

thx

Thanx for all the advice guys. I am starting to think i have some sick fascination with other peoples torments and struggle. I just got my bachellor in Psych at FSU so i have always been interested in the brain , emotions , how substances change brain chemisty for better or worse. Now that i am not an "addict" life has been great with family , friends and social life. Obviously i must still harbor emotional disturbances that beckon the to the darksided day after day. Ive been to hell and heaven through drugs and have learned alot. Im not sure though. I analyze others better than myself

Same here. I think we need to come here to look at what we used to do from this angle to remind us to not do it anymore, and try to help others to where we are. I won't ever shoot dope or smoke crack again, but it helps to be reminded why. And not out of some sick voyeuristic need. This is NA for people who don't want to go to NA, in a way.

With a degree in psych I'd imagine you'd already know why you like to read posts in TDS. The reason why one MIGHT be interested in peoples psychological problems, for someone with a psych degree...hmmmm. Curious, eh?

There's your answer :)

I'm currently studying Psychology at uni too, people like you and I are fascinated by how the mind works. And with that, we need to look at not only the good things but also the bad, dark, evil things that can occur in the mind. Drugs can play a big part in creating those bad things, and it just so happens that TDS is a place where people come to discuss such things. I wouldn't say you have a "sick fascination" with people's struggles (unless you're like, getting off on it...in which case you might have some issues there... ;)), but you're just interested in what other people are experiencing and how they're going about fixing it. And also, as others have said, it serves as a strong reminder of what you personally went through to get to where you are today, and why you can never go back <3

Are you actually going to be a psychologist? Or did you just do the degree out of personal interest?

that's exactly what I was thinking

Exactly. It's good to share your story and give people a lot of hope and courage to quit themselves. There's a lot of recovering/recovered people on Bluelight and the community sense in TDS is very strong.

you know n3ophyte is dead on on pretty much all the various reasons i go to this forum, especially lately. i'm a recovering addict and sometimes it helps remind me of why i don't need those kinds of things anymore and also to maybe help someone else get through there dark times.

I think all the above posters are dead-on. I enjoy coming to TDS as well, I have a large interest in psychology and have a lot of demons myself. I often find threads that I can relate to, so I get great advice without even asking for it.

Also, as a psych major, you can view a lot of these threads as case studies in a way. Once you mentioned your interests and past experience, you pretty much answered your own question. And no, I don't think it's an unhealthy or voyeuristic thing to be doing, you're just reading things that interest you and may in fact help you in your studies. And everyone here in TDS are such loving, caring wonderful people, who wouldn't want to come to stay a while?
