So i have a high tramadol tolerance - so for a high I need to take more.
I have heard that tramadol can also cause seizures.
My question is if I have a high tolerance does that mean if I take more than an average person do I have a reduced risk of a seizure? :- )

I wouldn't think so honestly Tramadol is so unpredictable. Some people never seizures then BAM randomly have one. I mean from high doses to even therapeutic doses (though rare at those). Personally I took them for 2months from.doses ranging from 250mgs-400mgs and never had one but again from what I readI really wouldn't count on your tolerance in helping you. Aside from it being weak obviously this is one of the main reasons that put me off from doing Trammies anymore. Shit scares the fuck out of me. But anyway this is my opinion at least.

If you are going to dose some anyway though I'd recommend a benzo with whatever your dose is as a precaution and safeguard if you can get your hands on one.

Stay safe

NOO...Just because your tolerance is higher does not mean you are less likely to have a seizure at a higher dose. Do not exceed recommended dosages of 400mg a day...search here on BL...lots of threads about it and posts of people experiencing seizures.

Tolerance to opioid effects doesn't dictate tolerance to seizures.

My tolerance was fairly high and used to take 800mg at once, regularly. I'd also have been taking either Diazepam/Lorazepam which I take daily so that may have inadvertently heightened my seizure threshold. It wasn't until I bothered to look up about Tramadol that seizures kick in at ~500mg>.

It's a shame because Tramadol is my favourite opioid and 400mg doesn't hit the sides any more. It's really, really just not worth taking any more than 400mg, and even then, there's no promises. I've heard people having seizures at 250mg.

Regardless of tolerance, the more tramadol you take the more likely you are to have a seizure. If you are going to take tramadol in higher doses it is recommended to take it with some sort of anti-epileptic i.e diazepam, lyrica etc etc.

200mg is the seizure threshold, regardless of tolerance. From then onwards, each dose increases the chance of having one.

pretty sure the threshold is 400mg. I personally have taken 1000mg with no benzos or anything, just weed and been fine. Buut ive also taken about 600mg and had a few seizures. Its so unpredictable its really not worth the high you get from it. If you are going to dose 400mg+ youre gunna need something to combat the seizures.

I'm sorry, I know this is an old thread but I wanted to tell you that yes, you can get seizures from Tramadol. It happened to me 3 times. I had quite a tolerance to opiates at the time, but it's not the opiates that cause the seizures with Tramadol. It also has an SSRI in it to help block pain signals and too much of that is what causes your neurons to misfire and cause a seizure.

After the first occurrence, I was unaware it was Tramadol. Nobody told me it was even a possibility and I had no idea about the SSRI in it. I just thought it was a weak opiate. The second occurrence, I had two very bad seizures in one day. They were so bad that there was about 7 hours of that evening going to the hospital and being there that I don't even remember. My first seizure was much milder with me coherent just 5 minutes afterward so my second and third were much more serious. Then I was told it was Tramadol. Both occasions I had 500mg.

The first time it took me a year to have a seizure. The second/third time it took me 6 months - both times after using them every day. So really I think for many, it's not a matter of IF you'll get a seizure on high doses, but WHEN. I haven't had Tramadol since (almost 6 years ago) and have had no other seizures and had none before I ever used them.

i just want to implore you to be very careful. I was lucky that on those 3 occasions someone was there to make sure I didn't hit my head and thank God I wasn't driving. At normal doses it's rare that a seizure could occur, but yes the higher you go, the more likely a seizure will occur. It seems that certain things need to line up just right considering how long it took for me to get them, but you really have to be careful with Tramadol.
