So who likes Arthur?
Here are two different versions of his works, if you are interested.

Just thought this guy deserves a bit of discussion.

^ Very useful post
Thank you for your great contribution to this community

If you think about it I just proved Arthur's point that at its core, the universe is not a rational place.

Honestly Arthur Shopenhauer is not for me. He is too much of a pessimist.

I prefer Monatigne, Orwell, Locke, Plato, Socrates, Epicurus, Rousseau... Even Neitzche makes a better philosophical point in regards to society, especially about atheism without necessarily sharing the same views on pessimism as Shopenhauer.

You asked for an opinion. I gave it.

Your first post was completely useless, you didn't give a valid opinion you just-

A human being stupid does not prove the universe is irrational, but that's beside the point.
I can understand a dislike for pessimism, but you've made no attempt to counter/oppose any of his opinions, or present an anti-pessimist (optimist) argument.

As far as social aspects go, I would say you're better off reading some sociology as opposed to some philosophy.
I don't view Schopenhauer to delve into religion all too much.

Thanks for expressing yourself in a more intelligent manner.

You are welcome. And I am a glass half full kind of guy. That is why I do not connect with pessimists. Neitzche improved on Schopenhauer and although was influenced by him in many ways expressed views with out the similar pessimist tone that Shopenhauer used.

I hope you find someone else who can connect with your literary/philosophical views.

I like his stuff, and his hair-do is ace. The pessimistic tone is something I resonate with.. get real tired of philosophy that tells us how neat everything is.. sometimes you need to listen to the brutal and cynical truths about things to get a more real picture. It's like depression.. not all depression is a bad thing.. maybe you're beginning to confront things in yourself and the outside world that need to be confronted, and thinking about those things.

That's all I've got.

^ I agree... it's not like we can make the world a wonderful place just by imagining that it is. If we live in a meaningless world, then clearly all of those optimistic philosophies are meaningless too.
