I hate raves!
heh i Had to laugh when i first went past maccas and saw that they were selling apples for 75 cents...
I love apples but buying one from maccas would just makes me feel, well odd..

however I have tried the yogurt berry crunch thing and it is quite tasty ( as well as 97% fat free)
I saw one of those salads and the didnt look the freshest..

my thoughts: maccas rocks but if i want healthy il still to some place else..

anyone?

i saw the ad it was pretty funny, subway is the only healthy take away i know and it feels weird now that maccas is goin all healthy. they are just tryin to beat kfc cos my store is the greatest and maccas has had to close down over 6000 stores(i think) world wide cos there business is lackin. but yeah the yoghart is nice.

i'm very interested in this new development.
they are also changing the instore decor, to give a fresher look.
thats just it with maccas, its all about "look."
i wonder, who are they fooling?
remember more than 50% of aussies have an IQ under 120... so its easy to make a sale!
as for store closures... youre so wrong.
its still + x% openning in australia every month. 6 in victoria this financial year, that's one per week.
now dont get me wrong, i dont eat maccas. but its like christianity, i wouldnt take it away from those who depend on it.

Mmmm :\ . I went to Macca's for lunch today, and I noticed their new menu. Some of it sounds really nice. But it just feels wrong for some reason... you don't go to Macca's to eat a salad or munch on an apple, for god's sake. Maccas' is an indulgence, a treat. I just can't see myself going: "Oooh, let's go down to macca's for a 97% fat free muffin!" =D

although, I suppose, congratulations and all that for attempting to be healthy

I'll never trust that evil Ronald MacDonald. He looks so damn sinister. That smile never leaves his face. Why? Because he's raking in the $$$ by selling fatty foods. Now he's come for the only market that he's not yet tainted with his deep fryer.. the vegetarians and the health-concious.

I reckon that sure the new "healthy" things might be lower in fat but they are probably still full of sugar. Real healthy food does not taste that great so they need to spice it up so that people will want to eat it.. :) And people will think they can eat as much as they want because its low fat and not realizing that it's still full of empty calories and sugar.

Selling fruit there is really good but who the hell goes to MacDonalds and wants to get an apple when they can smell delicious, fatty snacks cooking away? Why get the apple when you can get a deep fried apple pie for only a bit more? Hmm? It's got apple in it too! The way I see it, people go to MacDonalds to avoid eating healthy.

They are probably just trying to prevent future lawsuits as well. Recently in the States a group of obese teens filed a class action law suit against MacDonalds for making them fat. The case was thrown out on the basis that they had a choise to eat fatty foods or go somewhere else. They are suing again though alleging that McDonald's "engaged in deceptive advertising, in part because it failed to adequately disclose additives and processing methods that make its food less healthful."

Nice try MacDonalds but I see through your evil plans! :p

if they dont sell the apples within a 5 minute period do they have to throw them out?

erghh... im a carnivore anyway.. so the apples will just go along with the plastic forks and stuff that I cant eat

Does anyone else think that 75 cents for an apple is a little steep anyway? 75 cents buys TWO Pink Lady apples from Safeway! sheesh!

bullshit that "the look" doesnt work. i reckon it works on such a level that u dont even realise it. have a look at any city skyline from whichever street ur in, and if there's a maccas on that street, u'll no doubt see those golden arches in plain view. theyre impossible to miss.

the reason theyve got all that healthy stuff is cos theyre trying to cater for the "young proffesional" as well, those little corporate girlies that read cosmo and want "fat free" food. its a huge niche so why wouldnt such a large corporation try and cash in?

as for me, i buy maccas cos its easy. and i'm not denying that i too fall into this habit just the way the maccas marketing wants me to. 8)

I laughed when I saw this too...

I think with all the talk of Obestity these days, that Macca's is trying to change the look, into a more family, friendly, healhy restaurant...

IE: Macca's are saying, LOOK! We sell Salads, Were Healthy! Bring your kids here, they will still eat Big Mac's but hey.. Macca's isnt not healthy, we sell SALADS! :)

Baaah.. Its a marketing ploy to try and make consumer feel as though they are positioned with healthy food, but behind the seens the BIG Macs are still sizzling the fat! :) Hehehe

Just my thoughts!

*Hugs*

Shal..
=D

and then theres that nasty way they make u buy more. here, i shall explain:

u buy a Big Mac meal and eat ur "fries" first (or watever). theyre nice and salty, along with the big mac.

this makes u thirsty so u drink some of ur coke. the coke with all the bubbles soon fills u up and u leave thinking ur stuffed to ur guts.

half an hour later, u burp out all those bubbles and r hungry again. and...oh no....cos it was coke u were drinking, ur thirsty too.
shit, better buy some more maccas.

see the evil plot???

McDonalds in europe were selling salads in 1997 (and possibly before then). I can't believe it's taken this long for the Australian franchises to include them in their menu.

I think it's a good idea for times like long roadtrips. When the only things on offer at 11pm at night on the highway are fast food outlets....then at least you can choose a salad instead of just fat and sugar.

I wouldn't buy an apple from there though...agreed that it'd be wierd.

75c does sound kinda pricey....but I paid 80c for an apple in coles the other day :\

I think that any attempt by a fast food chain to serve actual healthy food is fantastic and should be welcomed. But it does sicken me that a person can buy enough calories to feed half of Africa for under $5, when a decent nutrional meal costs far, far, far more.

I haven't eaten from a McDonalds/Hungry Jacks/KFC in about 9 or 10 years, until recently desperation saw me purchase the cheese and tomato toasty (and as I suspected it was crap!). I am a vegetarian, and none of these places has catered for vegos until recently - even the chips are prepared in animal fat/tallow. I also had ethical problems with Maccas. I understand they hire predominantly kids (who find the work dries up when they become an adult; they are anti-union; plus the fact that the food is promoted for kids, and is the only take away food many families can afford (so they end up eating crap).

Despite all that, I have to say I have been tempted to try the new Maccas vege burger - gasp! What is really scary about that is that the advertising has obviously sucked me in and allowed me to (briefly) forget about all that stuff I listed above, and thefact that I know deep down, no matter how good it may look, being Maccas it will taste like crap. So I will try to avoid Maccas new vege burger...

As someone pointed out, many of the new low fat Maccas products will probably contain lots more sugar. The low fat savoury items all contain a truckload more salt to make up for flavour too - the new vege burger has nearly a gram of salt (974mg), the Chicken foldover has 1052mg. The BerryNice yogurt crunch has 44.5 grams of sugar, about the same as 4 caramel TimTams! See
McDonalds for more product info.

yeah.. the salads have been available in Germany since about 1990. I've always wondered what was taking them so long here??!!!8)

it's just wrong wrong wrong....who seriously is gonna go into a maccas and decide to just have the salad....especially if those prices are any indication, andyway as soon as you smell the fries the last thing you'll want is an apple

what about mothers who don't take their children/families to macca's because there is nothing there that will suit their diet???
lol, this was always a problem in my household... now its no longer an excuse =D
