Hello All,

I am new here and I don't even know if this is the right place to ask but I don't really have any other options. I have been suffering from the most horrible, mind shattering tooth/jaw pain for a few days now and I can not get into see anyone until monday afternoon. I have been taking 600mg motrin and 2 extra strength tylenol every 5 hours and it's not really touching it at all. The only thing that has helped in the past was tylenol 3's but I do not have any, however I do have access to percocet (acetaminophen/oxycodone 325 mg-5 mg) but I am afraid to take them as I am emetophobic (intense fear of vomiting) to the point I am terrified to take a pill that will make me throw up. If I handle codeine fine and can take a tylenol 3 without food is that any indication that I will be okay to take the 5mg of oxycodone? Also if not is there a way to up what I am currently taking to get some relief.

Thank you.

Editing to note I am not a recreational drug user, (not for any moral reason so I do not judge but just because of my vomiting fear) so my tolerance is probably pretty low.

Take Ibuprofen and not tylenol! If you have taken an oxycodone before and you handled it well than you should be fine for that and it will help. But advil/Ibuprofen will help a lot better than tylenol if you just wanna remain safe from the fear of vomiting.

I have never taken oxycodone before. I have only taken 30mgs of codeine. I know they are kind of similar I just didn't know if 5mg of oxycodone will make me sick if 30mg of codeine didn't. Or if there is no way to tell at all.

Hey, SweetiePeas! I've experienced the same kind of pain, and I know what you're going through. That kind of pain really is unbearable. The Percocet would really help a lot. They helped my pain way more than Tylenol-3's. I think if you just take a few deep breathes, and try to relieve yourself of all that anxiety about getting sick, and just take the Percocet with some food and water, you'll be in good shape. I really don't see you getting sick on from 5mg of oxycodone (with food), given your past experience with the codeiene. I think the biggest thing you have to worry about is making yourself sick from anxiety! Just take a chill pill and let the pain melt away~ ;)

Hope this helped!

Have you tried the gel that you put right at the site? Oralgel or whatever. Even if it only reduces some of the pain, you should be able to combine that with a pain med.

Take it with a little food and if you begin to feel any stomach upset then just lay down for 15 mins or so and it should be alright. The T-3's would come closer to making you sick than the percocet because codeine tends towards that.

Imho opioids won't help with teeth pain at all. I have been on 80mg of oxycodone daily for herniated discs and still could feel teeth pain as it is.

All x-profens are good for teethpain. Ketoprofen works best to that type of pain but I am not sure if it is available over the counter on your location but ibuprofen works nearly as well. There is also dexibuprofen, which only contains the active isomer and hence you get less side effects.

Of course best way to get rid of teethpain is going to a dentist to fix or get rid of the teeth that causes the pain but in less civilized countries like USA going to dentist costs a lot since they don't have public healthcare.

I'm inclined to agree that T-3s are more likely to make you nauseous than Percs, but everyone is different. I don't believe there's truly a correct answer here. I think you'd be fine, though.

You'll be fine.
If you're worried, don't have them on an empty stomach. Less potential for nausea .
Personally I'm only nauseous when I don't have oxy. I could tell you some barfing HORROR stories! But I won't lol

I'm afraid I'm going to have to agree with that last statement! It is so true. I'm going to have the rest of my teeth removed and have top and bottom dentures made doing it all in the same day. Going to cost me $2500 to get this done. I have health insurance through the state of NC and it is decent but doesn't cover dental work unless it results from an accident. But I can get a dental plan that should cover maybe half the cost but I have to have it for a year before it does. Hmm. I wonder if an accident of genetics would work? LOL!

You could try to go to a bar and start pissing off some motorcyclist and have a quick fix for your teeth :)

I once thought that our public dentist prices were high since having all of my wisdom teeth removed cost roughly 80USD which is fives time more than going to a normal Dr. and you only pay for three visits per year and after that it is free.

Then I spent a year in USA as exchange student and heard about their dentist prices and after that I have thought that our prices cheap :)

But well we pay a lot of taxes to cover our public services. I for example have 32% tax percent for my 70K USD yearly income.

But I did not have to pay for Dr. Degree for example since it is free to study anything you qualify for.
