Move to FT&E if it's a better fit there but I put it here because of the overtly political nature of the show

(CNN)Sacha Baron Cohen has been punking people for the last 20 years in various guises, which at first blush made his Showtime series, "Who is America?," sound like just more of the same. But the provocateur has reeled in some big fish -- who have dutifully denounced him -- as marks, adding sizzle to what otherwise amounts to serving old wine in a new bottle.

Sarah Palin, Alabama politician Roy Moore and former congressman Joe Walsh are among those who have lashed out at Cohen in advance, essentially turning themselves into ambassadors for Showtime's marketing department.
Other high-profile figures will be featured over the course of the series, although the premiere opens with Bernie Sanders, indicating that Cohen's targets won't all be of one ideological stripe, even if conservatives receive the lion's share of abuse. "I was forced to see a doctor, and suddenly I have three diseases," Cohen's Southern conservative character tells a fidgety Sanders, seeking to illustrate the evils of Obamacare.
As with his earlier work in this vein, including "Borat" and "Da Ali G Show," Cohen's shtick is a kind of performance art, built around just how far he can push his subjects, whose instincts to walk away or yell "cut" are curbed by the fact that they're being interviewed on camera. He is, basically, boiling a frog -- becoming gradually more outlandish, waiting to see how long it takes before they exhibit some inkling that the situation is abnormal.

It's my human furniture.

With any luck, the R's will be as gullible as Abdul.

At least Bob Barr had a good attitude about it in the end. When someone pulls a fast one on you and you get angry and lash out like Palin, Moore and Joe Arpaio, you just look like even more of an ass.

"I was the first person to realize he's [Trump] is a dick." --SBC

EDIT: What an idiot. Businesses have been around for hundreds of millions of years? Not unless they were being run by dinosaurs which only became extinct 65 million years ago.

I watched the first episode last night - and boy is it hilariously uncomfortable viewing. Baron cohen really does revel in tension.

I'd kind of written him off, with his last couple of movies, but this is some seriously brutal comedy which digs at numerous ends of the polarised political divide.
So good =D

Actually Trump was a dick because he could tell it was a troll. You can't troll a master troll.
Ali G managed to trick some of the most brilliant minds of all time, but Trump wasn't having it. I only noticed this after re-watching it much later.

The Ali G show tended to show us the interviews that actually worked; I think a lot of people would feel like something was off. I'd imagine the majority of interviews were deemed not fit for purpose, and discarded.

JGrimez, as an infrequent CE&P poster I'm interested to know, given that your very... protective... or even affirming attitude towards trump, what degree (i.e average percent) of confirmation bias you feel might be at play (if at all)? As somebody who generally tends to distrust politicians/prolific people of power, I find it quite intriguing.

I disagree with your imagination.

I'm not protective I will say that Trump sounds retarded sometimes when he speaks and that he could be a better orator. But that makes him in no way unintelligent. I've personally known brilliant and successful minds who had terrible spelling. And honestly your question is nonsensical, percentage of confirmation bias? How about you say I'm 100% biased towards the truth and Trump is just one person this is not just about him. He has advisors, military generals, Mike Rogers, Flynn etc a lot of seemingly good people behind his cause. I'm against corruption and serious crimes, if you can show me evidence that Trump commits those I will lose some support for Trump.

Bullshit. You've been given plenty of evidence for trump's blatant corruption, and you dismiss all of it out of hand.

I think you're trolling.

Nope I've looked through it. No compelling evidence has been presented otherwise he would be charged, and I was referring to serious crimes.

I think you're trolling.

The reason i say this is because you constantly post disingenuous nonsense in support of trump (the post above being a perfect example) but you never drop the persona.
You rarely post about anything else, and constantly avoid engaging in sincere debate.

You're an apologist, constantly offering excuses and conspiracy theories to support this abysmal president.

Which would be fine, if it didn't shut down debate and derail every conversation critical of trump.
It's disruptive and tiresome, and i suspect that's why you do it.

Do you remember liquid method?

I seem to recall he had the same M.O.

Same politics too - leaning to the far right with a twist of conspiracy nuttery. Apologist for trump and a range of fascists.
He was utterly disingenuous - and interestingly, temp-banned 5 days before you registered this account.

Coincidence? :sus:

Trump U was licensed out. He wasn't the one who did it but he bears responsibility by association and made some amendments.

Any crimes that he committed personally, serious like felonies, around the time he started running for politics, during his campaign, or his presidency?

You rarely post about anything else, and constantly avoid engaging in sincere debate.

But you seem to think that supporting Trump in any way is wrong or insincere so how am I supposed to say anything.
I would like nothing more to get into your mind and know how you come to some of your beliefs and conclusions but all you do in insult me.
That's the opposite of sincere debate which is very ironic. You routinely personally attack me. If you didn't have power to infract me for breaking rules I wouldn't be so nice to you.

Which would be fine, if it didn't shut down debate and derail every conversation critical of trump.

This Ali G thing was something that I genuinely noticed and I am a huge Ali G fan BUT from what I've seen so far of his new stuff he seems to disproportionately target conservatives. Which I am all for making stupid people look stupid, but if he doesn't go after a similar amount of Democrats then he will be perceived to be acting politically.

I'm not here to suck Trump's dick in every thread or even play his with nuts so stop implying that I do.
