Romantic Restaurants Brisbane

Hey, just did a quick look through and didn't see any restaurant threads active so I've opened this one to ask the question

"Does anyone know any nice romantic restaurants in Brisbane?"

Not really location specific, but near the CBD would be good i.e "west end through to padington and out to new farm" kind of area.

Price really isn't an issue as it's me and my misses 3 yr anniversary so I can splurge, but high price doesn't always imply good experience.

Really hunting great atmosphere and good food.

Any suggestions?

All I can suggest is asking c0tb, she'll have all the answers ;)

I'll recommend The Summit on Mt Coot-tha. Although it wasn't a romantic occasion, i went there with a friend earlier in the year for the degustation lunch (her husband manages the restaurant). The view is AMAZING, the food is absolutely delicious, the ambiance is wonderful. We had such a good time; next time the guy and I are in Brisbane for longer than a weekend, i'm definitely taking him there. Wandering around the look-out afterwards, taking in the view would also add to the romance, IMO. :)

'Romantic' as a term of definition may run the risk of being a subjective thing for different people.

If you don't get any firm suggestions here then I recommend determining what is the general 'restaurant-ish' area in Brisbane, then go down there for a walk one night (preferably b/w thurs and sat nights) check out which restaurants look full and which give off the vibe you require.

eatability.com.au is a good site to check out as well. Plenty of honest reviews (some *very* honest) but you can search based on location and cuisine type and then sort in order of highest points score to lowest.

I went to Cafe Mondiale last year with my girlfriend for coffee then later back for dinner, was a really nice atmosphere and not too packed either, food was great from what I had but that's always subjective.

Piaf - little Stanley St opposite side of the cinema area. Give it a shot

*Disclaimer - I have eaten there a few times, I don't work for them :)*

cheers for the replies people. I understand romance is subjective, but good atmosphere is really what one needs IMO.

I like Sono at Portside too. You can get your own private room and sit on tatami mats and a low table. Food is great if you love Japanese and Sake!

I always take my girlfriend to My Thai on Baroona Road, Auchenflower. It's the best thai you'll ever eat, but it was also the first place we ever ate at so it has a history with us. Not really sure about it's romance but we sure like it. It's BYO and reasonably cheap. I can't get enough of Aussie Cry, which is basically beef with chilli, coriander and onion and mega hot. OMG I love it. I also love the Tom Kha Gai soup and the little money bags...mmmmmmmm. Ok, time to head back I think!

We ate at Lure on Coro Drive for an anniversary once. We had the degustation menu with matched wines. Bloody expensive but well worth the silver service experience! Plus they are in the entertainment book.

Actually as far as romantic goes, Venice is right on the river and quite pretty. I haven't eaten there for years though so not sure what it is like now.

And finally there is the old Oxleys on the river. There are new owners now and the write up in the local rag was quite good so could be worth a try.

Happy anniversary!!!!

We went to Sono at Portside for COTB's birthday last year and it was really nice. We had a table at the window over looking the river which was pleasent. The food is fantastic (and the sake) but I wouldn't bother with desseart.

Dell'Ugo in New Farm is a nice Italian resturant. The staff are good and the fresh pasta is superb. The only problem is it is on Brunswick street which isn't exactly the most romantic outlook.

I haven't been to Lure but that is definitely on the wishlist.

Edit: My collegue just suggested Libertine at the old Barracks in Petrie Tce...

D'aw, thanks lovely! I like to think I'm a bit of a foodie. ;) <3

I have a blog called Brisbane_Eats that discusses everything food related within our city. Markets, butchers, restaurants, cafes - you name it, we talk about it! :)

We've done the topic of "romantic dinner" before, so have a look through the entries and you'll find it. Also there's a great tagging system so you should be able to locate everything you're after really easily.

I'm really tempted to go here for my birthday again this year it was so damn good! But, I think I'll keep widening my culinary horizons. ;)

I'd definitely take a recommendation from someone who worked at a restaurant. :)

Sykik, I remembered another place that i thought had a lovely atmosphere, and the food was really great. In saying that, however, I was taken there when i was 19, which is over a decade ago. The restaurant has been open for 24 years, though, so it must be doing something right. I was taken there on a date by a chef, so that must say something, yeah? ;)

Chopped chimp: My Thai is wonderful! It was a weekly eats place for myself and a couple of friends :D I know what you mean about a restaurant having history - there is a little hole-in-the-wall place in Melbourne called Sala Thai (Brunswick St, Fitzroy), that is so special to me. Not a hell of a lot of atmosphere, but we may as well have been the only people there. :)

Excellent, you have impeccable taste Samadhi! My Thai is a must book as it's always busy. So much so that they shut every Monday night, and most January's they shut the doors and fly all the staff to Thailand for the month! It annoys the hell out of me every time I forget and try to pop in for take away but hey, they are good enough to do what they please! :)

I've chosen SONO at portside i think. Thanks for all your replies. :)

Great. Let us know how it went/goes....

COTB, that blog is great! Now need some spare time to crawl through it...
