Hi all,

I'm diagnosed with ADHD-Combined type and prescribed up to 60mg of Ritalin IR(methylphenidate) a day(20mgX3 as needed throughout the day). I also supplement 2gs of omega3(500EPA/250DHA) and 1g of ALCAR every day. After I read up on PSerine's possible benefits for people with ADHD I decided to give it a try.

My question is if there are any known interactions between PSerine and Ritalin? I couldn't find much conclusive info or any direct interaction. I plan to start PSerine on 200mg a day and go up to 300 if I don't notice any effect in a month.

Thank you for your help :)

This compound doesn't seem too rare dietarily, so I wouldn't expect too dramatic an interaction. If you eat meat, you could just choose chicken and tuna comparatively often. Otherwise, supplementation with soy lecithin would do the trick.

chicken and tuna/fish are the main type of meats in my diet, however given the levels of processing our foods go through I don't expect them to have the same level of efficacy compared with a concentrated and distilled supplement. I actually used to eat a can of tuna every day before supplementing fish oil and have definitely noticed much more pronounced benefits from the supplement.

I understand PSerine is an inhibitor of cortisol. Can i expect a diminished overall effect from Ritalin, or is it merely relevant to the adrenergic side of the drug(which would actually be a good thing since it has no therapeutic value and only causes side effects)?

I expect PSerine to be about as active as lecithin, e.g. it's not pharmacologically relevant if you eat any meat, eggs, cheese.

Having some trouble posting so I'll have to come back and format this later.

Supplemental Pserine use isn't totally unsupported in ADHD patients:

From the paper linked above:
PS supplementation has been shown to benefit dopamine release (Mazzari & Battistella, 1980) and glutamatergic neurotransmission (Cohen & M€uller, 1992). PS benefits acetylcholine release by maintaining adequate acetylcholine supply (Casamenti et al., 1979) and increases the availability of endogenous choline for de novo synthesis and release, whereas similar treatments with phosphatidylcholine had no effect (Pedata et al., 1985).

It sounds like Pserine is probably acting as a very weak stimulant. My guess is it won't really provide any additional benefit when you're taking something as strong as Ritalin, but I don't think there have been any clinical trials on the combo.
