What is this drug like for anxiety? Does it even do anything at all or? Cos ive been on it for almost 2 week and nothing.
I got it for psychosis but i dont think i have it.
opinions on this anti psychotic, another one i been put on ?

Risperidone unlike Quetiapine and Olanzapine does not posses any real anti-cholinergic effects or any real anti-histamine effects thus it lacks the sedating that these 2 anti-psychotics are famous for. Risperidone is a very potent D2 antagonist as well as a potent Serotonin antagonist so it can cause that zombie effect especially in doses above 2mg's a day but it's shit for anxiety. I was on this drug for awile on and off for Bipolar disorder and i think it actually increased my anxiety (increased anxiety is listed as a side effect) and i got some insomnia from it as well.

I would strongly suggest not taking a anti-psychotic for anxiety unless you have something that anti-psychotics are indicated for such as Bipolar disorder, schizophrenia or sometimes major depression. Other then that i would suggest trying a tricyclic anti-depressant such as Amitriptyline, Doxepin or Trimipramine, the anti-histamine Hydroxyzine or if you aren't the type to abuse benzos some Valium, Clonazepam, etc.

thanks for the response. It's what i thought/

will viagra work with it?

is it reasonably safe?

Didn't work for my anxiety, there are, more likely to help other types of medication, anti depressants, anti histamines you can get over the counter in the UK, or finally anti anxieties themselves.

Look up: paroxetine in anti depressants, promethazine in anti histamines, and drugs from the family of benzodiazepines.

If you want antianxiety try Seroquel, also Saphris works. Quetiapine and asenapine are the best Atypical Antipsychotics that I've tried for anxiety.
The use of Antipsychotics for anxiety is effective, but there are a lot of unwanted side-effects as well
If you are really daring, try Haldol, a Typical Antipsychotic. that will eliminate your anxiety, but also pretty much all of your other emotions as well.
Atypicals are Much better

Everyone has their own reactions to these medications but Risperdal is definitely not something that should be used to treat anxiety primarily. In fact, akathisia is quite common with Risperdal. You can also grow male breasts with the medication. I know someone from an inpatient unit who got that as a side effect. If you are set on trying a psych med something for anxiety, I would try something like Buspar because it is one of the few psychiatric medications that have low side effects and low serious adverse event reports submitted to the FDA.

Haldol for anxiety? That's abit like killing a mouse with a shotgun don't ya think? It has so many side effects that it is barely used for anything other then emergencies anymore let alone anxiety.

^ I agree, Haldol may be a bit much for just regular day to day generalized anxiety disorder.

I wish I had some insight to give you about Risperidone for anxiety, but I have not tried that medication for anxiety. I can, however, give you my personal experience from the medications I have tried and what works for me. Supportbluelight, do you have any other medical conditions as indicated by your doctor, such as bipolar mood disorder, depression, ADHD, etc? It took me a while to get my anxiety under control- and I'm talking years here. I am diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder, bipolar depression, and post traumatic stress disorder. The medications that I am on to control everything is Lamictal, Latuda, Klonopin, Ativan, and Prazosin. I know it sounds like a lot, but it's what works for me. Latuda is an antipsychotic and I find myself having less acute panic attacks and when I have them they are much less severe.

In response to taking Viagra with Risperidone, there are no known interactions, but of course check with your prescribing doctor or the pharmacist if you are concerned.

Nope I dont have any of those medical conditions. I do have really bad habits that I can't break (non drug related)
Generalized anxiety disorder, Social anxiety, Panic attacks.
I'm prescribed Clonazepam and Seroquel. They both do nothing for my condition. Seroquel just makes me sleepy after about 300mg.
Clonazepam does nothing either.

That is the worst medication I ever took. Flush that shit down the toilet and ask for something else, if the doctor says no get a new doctor. It will suck the life out of you, make you fat, and if your a teenage boy it'll give you breasts.

a low dose of abilify and a very low (100mg) dose of seroquel works for me.

Yep the more i take it just makes me sleepy not take away anxiety.

A new doctor i can't get for certain reasons.

Risperidone made me have just about the worst restless legs that I've ever had, and made me super sleepy at the same time. It was a real bitch.
I've been told it can give you diabetes.

If you're going to take any type of mood stabilizer for anxiety, try an atypical. Lamictal, or Seroquel, or one of the others. But still not best for anxiety, unless it's mood related. Seroquel does make some very tired and has RLS sx in higher doses. Lamictal isn't approved specifically for anxiety, but can help some.
I've been on Risperdone. I was on a high dose and I started hallucinating at an event and had like a psychotic break, went into full blown panic.
But that's just me, it can be tolerated and helps a bit for sleep. It's an older med, also causes RLS and weight gain

Low dose SSRI's help for anxiety, but if you are having psychosis, SSRI's might not be best either… due to serotonin action, ime and what I've noticed. Gabapentin/Lyrica are options for anxiety, but not mainly prescribed for them.
Remeron or Tricyclics might be tolerated well for you.

Bottom line ask your doctor for something else. I hope you find a decent med and doc that will work with you on stabilization.
