An origin story set in present day San Francisco, where man's own experiments with genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy.

The title is dumb and a mouthful. The trailer looks good though. If the movie is shit, then the guys who pieced the trailer together deserve some sort of award for their deception skills. I'm tired of being tricked by trailers into thinking something looks good and you find out it's bullshit. The ending to the last one with Marky Mark. What the hell was that? The cops and citizens are all monkeys? Why? Why did they build their cars to be the same size as ours when they're bigger than we are?

Anyways, here's the trailer. Dirty, sweaty man on ape porn

The 2001 remake of Planet of the Apes was nowhere near as good as the 1968 original.

This will just be a sucky rehash of the 1972 Conquest of the Planet of the Apes.

Can't film makers come up with anything original anymore?

I listened to an interview with a film producer whom I forget the name of on NPR a while ago, and he was talking about how Hollywood doesn't like to take chances on a template that isn't tried and true. Probably why we have so many remakes of classic films lately.

Although it is a remake I would still like to see this one. Sometimes when I go to the movie theater I will pay for effects over acting. At home I am more into drama/indie type of movies.

Hollywood taking chances is the whole reason the New Hollywood movement saved...well...Hollywood.

I really can't remember who the hell the producer was, I wish I could. It was on Fresh Air back in December/January of 2010. His point was that the studios are more cautious with the ideas that they greenlight, and that they are more worried about making money than making great movies. Which from the studio's standpoint I guess you can't blame em.

Ugh, that's the eternal problem....

Sorry about derailing the thread :\

The 2001 Planets was atrocious, the only Burton film that I can so describe. He seems to have thought that it's enough to have a twist ending, when in fact a twist must always make sense in retrospect. As for the other sequels: has even one come close the original?

But hey, like someone else already wrote, damned if I'm not going to watch the new one, somewhere...

Here's the new trailer: Click here

The CGI still looks fake. I wish they would actually use real chimps in a lot of those scenes. All they would have to do is manipulate their faces when needed to express emotion. Instead, it seems they went the route of 100% CGI on the chimps. Bad move. We know what chimps and apes look like. Until they can perfect CGI faces, they need to use the real thing.

The answer is most definitely NO.

I've been thinking about this lately. You see all this rehashing of the same old formula. Comic Book heros are a current rage. Zookeeper is basically the sequel to the shit stain they titled Paul Blart Mall Cop.

Just like they continuously remake "cop dramas" and shows that take place in hospitals all the time on network tv.

There's absolutely no creativity in mainstream entertainment.

Yeah, the cgi does look fake. I honestly think this movie looks sweet though. I'm a huge fan of James Franco and I think it's high time that a remake does the ape franchise some justice. I'm gonna say this movie will be a good watch but nothing to rave about.

1968 Apes will never be beaten though.

It's funny how fake the CGI seems when one of the taglines in the trailer is 'From WETA digital, the visual effects company for AVATAR'

Certainly doesn't look like the same kind of visual effects...

I'm curious about this one but I doubt I will spend $ for it in a theater. Thus, I will wait for it to hit HBO. The originals are just too classic.

I've been saying for years 'Best Trailer' deserves an Oscar category. ;)

Yeah, shocker, this looks terrible. Even the masters of trailers cannot hide the stink of this one.

Just saw this last night. It was really good. There's a good build up and the climax is good. It was not a rush action story but rather good drama with some action in it. The CGI is good. Andy Serkis was especially good. 4 stars from me...

yeah i'd liek to see some more reviews (particularly on here bahahha)before i consider seeing it. i really like franco and felton, and the trailer for deathly hallows part 2 imax was pretty sweet, but like a previous poster said, trailers can be very deceiving these days :\

by these days you mean what ? since the 40s ?

i saw most of it n really enjoyed it
it involve monkeys (or ape if you prefer) and they dont wear make up this time around
basically i had this feeling that this one makes me feel like peeing all over tim burton for the shit remake he made

edit : i must add that the first one is a classic, i love it + the soundtrack
this one sure aint a classic
but if you like to document yourself on how apes came to rule the world then this is a entertaining way to learn about your own history

double edit : and it did made me think about creationist type, how do they feel about that kind of movies, its sci-fi but if you go back to the first one, one of the great things about it was the whole philosophical undertone about it

I was enjoying it up to about the last 5 minutes or so. I was expecting a liiiiiittle more. But then the 'other' ending made it kinda sorta better if you get my drift... it had a more or less nice and neat way of tying up the previous movie without appearing too contrived (such as other prequels like Revenge of the Sith). Of course there'll probably be some plot-hole someone could hold a microscope to but I thought it was well done overall...
