I've done a few searches about this supplements, but I can't find much.

Apparently it works as a MAO B inhibitor.

It's supposed to be good for fatigue.

Has anyone used it? Is it worth the money?

Rhodiola rosea may be effective for improving mood and alleviating depression. Pilot studies on human subjects[2][3][4] showed that it improves physical and mental performance, and may reduce fatigue.

Rhodiola rosea's effects are potentially mediated by changes in serotonin and dopamine levels due to monoamine oxidase inhibition and its influence on opioid peptides such as beta-endorphin,[5] although these specific neurochemical mechanisms have not been clearly documented with scientific studies.

Rhodiola is included among a class of plant derivatives called adaptogens which differ from chemical stimulants, such as nicotine, and do not have the same physiological effects.

i think its more used for depression, and it might help you feel less fatigued due to it messing with serotonin/dopamine.

^we've got a supplements&herbs mega-thread so maybe you wanna take a look at it?

Right, my only slight cause for concern is that fact that it's an MAOI, and I'm taking fluoxetine.

But I guess as it's available in health food shops, with no warnings on the box....it's too weak to worry about...

(fatal mistake?)

From the research I've gathered, it's very adaptogenic. Some anecdotal reports from dpselfhelp.com say that it has more powerful adaptogenic effects than ginkgo and ginseng.

I've tried it.

I don't know if it had much to do with it but I rode my bike about 30 mi. just before I took a break from it. I had been fatigued for months, too.

I tried it with capsules that came with it and green tea.

Was intresting . I just felt like i had more energy and i was a bit more awake . .

It was an exctract though . . .

... These things are dodgy when it comes to trying to find one that has a high absorbancy , etc . Because theyre not regulated as you may think they are . look it up .

Well it seems to do something, but the something feels pretty mild. Bit of mood elevation, and I'm generally able to get on with things though the day, less procrastination so to say.

I'm taking 175mg capsules twice daily.

spephspeph, try and find the herb itself instead of taking capsules. Standardised extracts and capsules of herbs can often be much weaker than the herb itself.
Take Marijuana for example...Marijuana as a whole can relieve many ailments, but when one extracts the THC alone and sells it (humans are ridiculous animals) there can be a plethora of side-effects and not nearly as effective as the whole plant itself, mainly due to the synergy and combination of several cannabinoids/alkaloids at one time.

It was hard enough finding the capsules, I don't know where I'd get the herb...one of those chinese medicine shops?

No idea, pal. I can't source you online so you're on your own there i'm afraid, but yeah, try any herbal store, chinese medicine store perhaps. I have a local herbal store that take orders for you and get it in bulk straight from their supplier, you can effectively get anything you want. Try asking about!

their are good quality extracts from reliable brands as well as bunk and bad ones from the cheaper ones. Whole herb does however contain all the essentials from the plant often giving better result less side effects like stated above. Ayurveda uses no extracts for that reason, rhodiola is not ayurvedic!

My personal experience with Rhodiola made me conclude it combines poor with dextro-amphetamin. Giving overstimulation and stress, not life threatening but uncomfterable.

I've been taking it since Saturday. Either it has a very strong placebo affect, or it works.

More motivation, easy to get out of bed in the morning, less anxiety.

Damn man^ i have also heard about it and am interested in it...dr oz even mentioned it!

I saw this brand in one of the health food stores by me called gaia, has anyone heard of them? They had rhodiola rosea that seemed like a pretty quality product and it better be because of the 25 dollars you hanve to spend for i think its like a month worth of servings.

Im tempted to try it i would loveeee me some more motivation haha.

It did seem pretty pricey, I only bought it because the shop where I bought it had it on half price.

A local herb/tea shop carries it in bulk. I bought an oz of it once, tried it a few times, no real noticeable effects.

I've read that it's best in combination with things. I read that it can help a person ease into psychedelia a little better do to the adaptogenic properties. I think I also read it can help with opioid tolerance? Don't quote me though.

Don't quote me though.

Woops...

...Do you think it was perhaps due to the quality? Certainly around here, I often find that local herb stores don't store the herbs the best way and often don't get the best quality to begin with, though that's just probably because it's the UK and the UK are shit at everything.

Maybe you should try it again from any reputable online vendor? Just an idea based on my experience, not an absolute or anything! Maybe the quality you got was great and it just didn't work for you :)

Also, do you mean it can hinder tolerance developing to opioids?

My husband tried this for depression years ago when trying to go the natural route.
It did not work. NONE of the herbals did.
