Religous Fundamentalists and Government

I was saying F you because i think it is selfish and rude for you to even bitch that people actually get a day off for their religious beliefs. You say you are ok with that, but it shouldnt be a law? Well, what is a religious person to do, just quite? Or should an employer hire people to only work on sundays? See what i mean? You all dont respect our views anymore than you think we respect yours, there is no difference at all and it pisses me off when people demand our respect and understanding when you all dont give it back. I have nothing against you, i am not even sure i have ever even talked to you on BL. If i have i dont remember.

And what are we supposed to do about our elected officials? Tell them that they are to not be religious or they dont qulaify to work in the gov? Of course not! So it is natural that they will be elected by like minded people and therefore pass likeminded laws as those who elected them. It works the other way around as well, thats why we have elections - vote for those whom you agree with.

DD, i could literally bitch and complain about dozens and dozens of laws that inconvenience me, it happens to ALL of us, not just you not being allowed to by alcohol on sundays. Would you agree? And also you KNOW that there are WAY MORE places that DO sell alcohol on sundays, move there if yo udont like it where you are. See, you all have choices, plenty of them, you are just to lazy to take advantage of them.

Our government is NOT mixed with religion, it is run by those who are elected by the people, who may be religious or not. If laws get passed to represent the views and wishes of the people then i think our way of doing things is working just fine.

I don't have a problem with people taking a day off. Like you have said about DD moving to another state, perhaps the person who wants a day off should find a job that isn't open on Sundays. That's not the always the best option (or even an option at all in some places) IMO. That's why we have laws to protect religious freedom. Something along the lines of you cannot "discrimminate based on race, sex, age or religion". I don't think workers who do want to take the day off to practice their religion should be hurt in anyway (by being fired or harrassed). But there are anti-discrimmination laws to protect them.

Giving you the CHOICE to display your religion, the practice your religion, doesn't need governmental favoritsm, nor does it impede on your religious freedom. I have plenty of morals i would never want enforced by law. I don't understand why that's such a hard concept.. for voters. To me is boils down to respect. It's not about spitting on one person's beliefs or the other.. but about attempting to be as neutral as possible. Government sanctioned religious favoritsm and even religious law has no place in this world i feel. Religion is in your heart and in your mind.

A government official can be religious. No problem there at all. But i think people should have a respect for all believes and not install some law rooted in supernatural mysticism instead of readibly percievable reality in terms of consequentiality. I know plenty of very religious people, who would never tell me what i can and can't do, but i'm afraid to say.. it's not the majority.

Here's an interesting thought, and point. It has very little to do with the topic at hand, but I had to put it somewhere.

The founding fathers would be considered ultra liberals today.

Also the nation was not founded by puritans. The puritan were called Quakers, and lived in Pennslyvania. Only two out of the founding fathers had true puritan roots.

Christian Soldier: Yeah, sure. My minds a bit loopy this week but what I was getting at is that some laws, as well as religious beliefs, are down to our own emotional tantrums rather then rational thinking or a drive towards a society thats respectful towards its members.

SoHiAllTheTime: LOL yeah.

why not make a post about it? We have some pretty good debaters here. I'd be interested to read the responses myself.
