Reducing muscle mass

I'm not knowledgeable on exactly when, what, and how much to eat right after a workout. But in general, you would want to follow dietary guidelines used by serious runners or cyclists. Their diets tend to be designed to help them get leaner and stronger and avoid bulk.

Such an odd thing to be striving for. A friendly reminder that muscle burns calories (ie keeps you in shape) and generally makes tasks easier in life. I would just let the muscle disappear naturally by not working it (ie not weight training it). There is no reason you should actively seek to get rid of the muscle, maybe get rid of excess fat if you want your calves to look smaller.

Are you trying to fit into skinny jeans or something? Cause that trend is going to die soon, I can predict it.

fasting

running on an empty stomach in the morning works wonders at destroying muscle, if you really want to lose serious muscle do some HIIT first thing upon waking.

im gonna do this, then do ab excersizes midday, and run again after dinner. whats HIIT though?

HIIT= High Intensity Interval Training

Do 1minute of very light jogging and then 30 secs to 1minute of sprinting, then 1minute of jogging/walking then sprint. Repeat until youve done 20-30 minutes of this and I guarantee you it will make you lean mean fighting machine.

This is like the best thing for shedding bodyweight but it is not for the faint hearted as it is a killer workout which usually always needs fuelling before to avoid catabolism whereas in your case if you do it on an empty stomach upon waking you are 100% guaranteed to burn muscle and fat in all honesty you'll lose weight the quickest you ever have in your life ;)

anyone got any tips on how to reduce muscle mass? (calf/thighs in particular)

i was told that long-distance running would reduce the size because it forces the fibers to lighten the load i guess? anyone know anything about this?

and would taking a fish oil supplement with omega 3-6-9 prevent the process of reduction? haha sorry for the ridiculous post but theres so much mixed advice on the topic, and BL seems to be the only reliable source for information;)

im 5' 11'', 16 yr old boy, 155lbs. i stopped soccer so theres really no point in having bigass legs haha, theyre just kinda in the way now:p

well, any tips/info will be greatly appreciated,
thanks BL, plur<3

high reps, low resistance ;-) dont do just one exercise, do tons of exercises according to the same pattern. focus on carbs more than proteins to fuel your exercise efforts. its not hard to burn muscle off of the body as the human body is not 'designed' by nature to hold onto it.

or, take up martial arts.

i was a bodybuilder for about 6 years. then i started learning kung fu. i lost about 50lbs of muscle across my entire body within the first 6 months as i was doing 0 work in the gym and a whole lotta' work in the guan.

it was actually really hard to accept psychologically at first. i had little fighting ability with my 'new' very thin and agile body, and had previously come to know myself as a physical powerhouse (it blows your ego up a bit when every girl you meet claims you resemble a greek god). my ego was trippin pretty hard over that lifestyle change for a long time. i used to bench 330lbs no problem. now i bench around 135 lol.

but now i can kill a man in under one second with my bare hands, and i regard muscles as a useless waste of time which costs a lot of money to maintain and hurts your body in the long run.

fuck this ideal that human bodies are supposed to be shaped into ways a paleolithic world would never support. thin and agile = survival. thick and brawny = pretty.

it took a few years, but laying on the couch playing vids reduced the ammount of muscel mass i hate considerably.

To each their own. I also like to put in a lot of cardio but would hate to bench 135. It's not like you need to be able to kill someone with your bare hands to survive nowadays do you?

I'm not sure if any sort of diet or exercise is going to significantly reduce the size of your legs, unless you work-out and starve yourself at the same time anorexic-style. Perhaps you should persue treatment like an SSRI for body dysmorphic disorder, cognitive behavior therapy, or you could stop comparing yourself to others and be happy you don't have that disorder where people have really weak, tiny calves.

having tiny weak calves isnt a disorder...;)

Workout after having eaten whilst eating slightly under maintenance calories in a day and low amounts of protein with healthy amounts of EFA's.

Working out on an empty stomach is never good, despite your goal. Studieshave shown that you may reduce size alot easier if you exercise with fuel in you and enjoy 2x cold showers a day.

why cold showers?

^ possibly because the body uses a huge percent of its daily energy through thermoregulation? Even better might be to swim for a half hour + a day in a cold pool/ocean etc. :)

There is now a thread on Cold Showers for your information, though the thread to date has not given any reasons as to why cold showers are awesome, just that they are awesome. :P
