Recreational Xanax withdrawal?

I have been using xanax (and other benzos) but mostly xanax for about 2 years now recreationally. I dont take it everyday, but Id say I take it probably 3-4 times a week. I started out getting blasted by a half bar and now I have to take a full 2mg to chill. I have some anxiety but who doesnt? but this use was more recreational. However, I am about to start being drug tested by my state for some bullshit. I know xanax isnt safe to just completely stop cold turkey, but since i dont take it everyday, (usually go on weekend binges or just one a couple nights a week to chill), am I gonna have a withdrawal? I mean maybe a little bit but is it something I should or should not really worry about? I know it takes about 48 hours to get out of the system. I dont want a bunch of lecturing btw, I know its not good for you but Im in fucking college. Any advice? I might keep taking it in between drug tests every once in awhile, but definately cant really do it often since this drug testing thing. Lmk what you guys think!

I don't think you will have withdrawals since you aren't taking it every day. If anything, you may experience a little insomnia but you should be alright.

No they're probably going to get some pretty bad withdrawals, 3-4 times a week for 2 years? To be blunt That's going to cause pretty bad withdrawals, unless you're one of those rare cases that don't get them as badly as others. By abusing benzodiazepines you're now going to just get even worse anxiety then ever before.

One last thing, why are you concerned about being tested for a schedule IV drug? They don't test for benzodiazepines.

pretty sure they do? its a diversion type drug test, i dont think they just allow you to take benzos

Daily use yeah, but a few times a week I think he will be ok with 1-2 mg. Might feel uncomfortable but I don't think he's in danger.

Johnny I've first hand experience with diversion and drug court programs so you don't want to mess this up. We can't really get into drug test discussion here but if you aren't prescribed Xanax that's going to be a problem so you have to stop.

I would suspect that your anxiety that you already have might spike up some at times when you would normally take a Xanax for a little while, but if you are taking Xanax at 1 mg to 2 mg every other day or about that, I'd bet you are fairly safe when it comes to physical wd's. This would not be the case with all benzo's, but Xanax has a relatively very short half-life. So, again, I don't think you are in danger - wouldn't swear to it, but I don't think so. I doubt you'll even feel more anxiety on a day when you wouldn't have normally had a reason to take a bit of Xanax to relax; I think, if anything, it is when the anxiety would have been normally eased with Xanax, that you might feel 'extra' anxious, and might feel a bit overwhelmed.

Withdrawal syndrome can be prominent with benzodiazepines after just a month of 2-3 time a week use. SAMSHA-5 (most common drug test) does not detect benzodiazepines; however, I guess they could extend it, but I don't really see why they would.

^ It can happen with prolonged use but I wouldn't say that's common for a 2-3 times a week benzo user to experience withdrawals after a month. There's a difference between a person feeling some discomfort and being a sweaty, puking, shaky mess.

OP said that they take it 3-4 times a week for 2 years, thats definitely prolonged use; I highly doubt OP is in the clear.
