So long story short I have did detox through not addictive medications cold turkey from heavy opiate use. The last two years have been Oxy, methadone treatment, suboxone treatment, relapse 6 months heavy Opana/Opiates and have been clean now for 3 weeks. Ive stopped taking most of the medications except trazodone before I go to be, which I will try to stop soon(Doc said not addicting) Im just now starting to feel better but my sleeping sucks! I will fall asleep around 12am for maybe 2 hours, lay there for a couple hours with restless legs/can't get comfortable, if Im lucky fall asleep for 30 minutes then get up at 5-6am. I know that Ive fucked up my body and time heals, but has anyone gone through this? The weird thing is I feel mostly okay through the day, and coffee is def my new vice in the morning! Before this I would sleep 9-12 hours without even waking up once, oh how I miss this ability... Any advice? I don't want to take anything to sleep, and am using NO drugs except the trazodone which will stop soon. Evening if you yourself have gone through this, any advice/ similar stories would help. Thanks in advance.
have you looked into a magnesium supplement? i could never get to sleep because of the same problem. but then i went out and bought some magnesium and no joke it does wonders. i take 200mg before bed on nights that i dont workout. and 400mg on nights that i do workout. i helps relax me a ton. look for magnesium citrate. its a few bucks more than magnesium oxide but the bioavailibility is much higher in citrate form.
but if you dont wanna do that my only other recommendation would be melatonin sublingual.
Hi, Harley3311--Glad to hear you're going to try the sober route! Three weeks can seem like forever when you've been using for years, so good job. :)
I did a quick search for "sleep" in this forum and a few topics popped up that may be beneficial for you, the most notable being Insomnia?. I was going to merge this there but you specifically said you don't want drug recommendations.
If you haven't tried a healthy diet and routine in your sleep schedule, that is what I would suggest first. No TV/computer/bright lights within a couple hours of bed time. Make your bed/bedroom strictly for sleeping.
For the longest time, i couldn't fathom a DAY sober. 3 weeks is quite a miracle and I hope you are spreading some of that hope to some people who still suffer. Good stuff.
Some suggestions:
Stick to a scheduled time for sleep and keep at it.
Low dose Melatonin, ~300mcg ( need source, but MD recommended this dosage to me)
Mindful Breathing exercises - http://www.umm.edu/sleep/relax_tech.htm
Meditation ....easier than you think. Just google beginners meditaion practices and find something that works for you.
This is what worked for me in the beginning, hope it helps.
