random shit

fuckin I'm sore...I ran 8 miles, 56 minutes with 75lbs of gear and a gasmask....fuck yeah.

now for a short tactics lecture.

okay, one of the big things that SF units so good, is they seem to avoid ambushes, sentries, main formations, ect....how this is done?...generally, by finding the hardest, longest, most unpleasant route of getting somewhere, and taking it.

why?...people tend to be lazy. they like roads and firm ground, not mountians and bogs. they tend to avoid them, thus, they dont see us, as thats where we go. ideally, its nice and fucking hot, or cold and rainy...once more, that generally makes people avoid going out, giving us the chance to work unseen.

works for other stuff too...no one tends to expect your coming the hardest way possible.

Good point. I read Shantaram a while ago, and they detailed a paramilitary attack on the Russians in Afghanistan years ago. They could have made it to their attack post in a few hours by road, but instead they took two months to go over the peaks (not passes) of a couple of mountain ranges to get there. Used the same logic, and it worked... well in the short term for them at least.

it works well, I mean you cant go around attacking a Russian tank division with a platoon of light infantry and expect to get too far...but even so, it still helped em.

man than effort.
my younger bro used to talk about crazy pack marches and i never envied him.
hes a reservist but has volunteered on a few missions o/s all for the money to get him through uni.

Re Shantaram - one of the best books ive ever read, seriously.
