rambling about eating healthy

i am having a rather hard time eating 1,000-1,200 calories. i think i am doing something wrong since most people seem to have a hard time staying under 1,200 calories. i've started eating breakfast and lunch, and i try to have a snack in the morning and a snack at night. like today i yogurt and a granola for breakfast, some carrots and grapes as a snack, chicken citrus salad for lunch, a healthy choice frozen dinner with almond milk for dinner. i'll prolly have a banana for a snack but all that is only about 900 calories.

its even harder to eat lots of food on weekends when i sleep in. i think i should buy some of those nasty protein drinks or something for when i don't feel like eating. or maybe i will eventually get used to this eating all day thing.

There are some very tasty protein powders out there that are cheaper than the shitty pre-made ones. I flip-flop between which ones I use but its beneficial to have a protein drink approximately a half hour after your workout. Be forewarned... it will make you gassy for a bit until your body adjusts to it.

Odwalla bars are pretty tasty too and eating one in addition to your protein should put you right at the 1200 mark

see!??!?! Ugh! I can't stop talking about this stuff once I've started

^can you find them in reasonable sized containers? all i saw when i was at the store was massive jars of the stuff. i don't want to buy a giant jar only to discover i hate the taste. what do you recommend?

i didn't know odwalla made bars, i drink their juice a fair bit.

Yeah, they do come in HUGE jars or even dog food type bags. The best tasting (but more expensive) I've had are by GNC (Wheybolic Extreme 60) and Max Muscle. I only buy the GNC during their buy-one-get-one at 50% but it is my favorite (particularly vanilla).

Our bodies can only process 40 grams of protein at a time so if you go with the GNC brand only use 2 scoops (40g) as opposed to the suggested 3 scoops (60g)

My third favorite is from Optimum Nutrition.

Oh man! Odwalla bars are awesome!!!!! Don't spend more than a dollar each for one. Some stores sell them for almost $2 but any big grocery store will have them for 10 for $10. My favorite is the chocolate peanut butter. I was REAL disappointed with the blueberry because they put a sugary glaze on it :(

Keep in mind that isolates, dairy ones in particular, are made with the cheapest source material possible. The milk that didn't pass muster to go to the store as milk? That's where whey/casein isolate comes from.

I prefer Vega, but it's not cheap and isn't really that tasty. But it's one of my five to six daily meals during the week, and is pretty easy. Bars are a great way to get extra calories, but make sure that you read the nutrition label very closely. Most granola and other 'energy' bars have a nutritional profile that's closer to a Snicker's bar than anything else.

Trail mix works nicely as a healthy calorie boost, as it has a nice balance between protein and fat. Throw in a bit of dried fruit and you've got all three macronutrients covered with whole foods! It's calorie dense like whoa though, so be careful with how much you eat, and try making your own from the nuts you like for maximum awesome.
