Quitting Oxy First Day

So I've been going on a downward path with oxycodone. It's basically taking over my life. Spending all my money (which I don't even have). I've been late on all of my payments which include rent and car payment. I'm afraid it's just going to get worse. During the week I take anywhere from 30-60 mg a day. On the weekends it's from 75-100 mg a day. I need to stop now. Any advice for tomorrow which will be my first day trying to quit? I have no money to get anymore and I am sick right now to begin with. I have to work a double shift tomorrow so hopefully it will keep my mind straight. Oxy has been taking over my life. Please help!

30-60mgs is really no joke, but it's no a death sentence either. You could quick cold turkey, and will have withdrawals for 3-4 days. Or you could taper, which is my recommendation because you said you need to work. So you should take 10% less everyday until you are done with it, then jump off. You will still be having withdrawals however not nearly as strong and the hardest part will be the mental withdrawals. But you must fight the urge to take anymore. Good luck.

John. I know what you are going through. I've had several (literally can't count) the unvoluntary coldturkey. If you have very little money at all you must scrape together atleast 5 dollars. Go buy a bottle of loperamide to keep fluids in. Benegryl (diphenhydropine ) for sleep. take lots and lots of warm baths. you must drink alotta water. this will flush your system faster. Day 3 is usually the worst of it. Then u feel a tad better on day 4. sometimes it takes up to 10 days to sleep well. a HUGE chunk of doing a cold turkey is mental attitude. Constantly reminding yourself you are doing it because you want too. Not because you are just out. Time is ur weapon. the more time off them you have the bigger and stronger your weapon will be. Try to get Kratom if it's legal where you are. NOT to get high. just enough so you aren't as miserable. You can do it. Just don't be stupid like me and after your clean a week start taking again. It's pretty insane to start them withdrawls all over again... Lots of love to ya. .

John-How are you?

From the mg's/day you're taking, I don't think you can just stop taking it and get through work...unless you take Loperamide (Immodium). If you're not familiar how it's taken for help w withdrawal there is a Loperamide megathread here on blueight.

The dosage isn't the same as for diarrhea. This is just me (how I personally took it)- to help function I'd take about 40mg 2x/day. You don't feel great, but you can get thru it. If you have access to other comfort drugs, such as something to help you sleep- for short term use.

From my experience, if it's a possibility, go to an inpatient detox. I hope you are ok.

Yeah, loperamide & doxylamine are the best OTC things available for opioid detox. You could try DXM, it depends on your genetics whether it gets efficiently metabolized into the wanted DXO, or it can be somewhat psychotomimetic. But there are anecdotal success stories of DXM helping to alleviate opioid tolerance & PAWS.

If possible, get a Rx for memantine (and maybe clonidine). This nice little Alzheimer's drug can do a good job with restoring endorphin and dopaminergic pathways and it's certainly less risky and more effective than DXM.

Without knowing how long you had this habit it's a little hard to gauge how bad/long your wds will be but there is plenty of good advise in the posts above. If this is your first time and you're going cold turkey prepare for hell. Lope for the fluids and a little ease of the other symptoms too (loperamide is actually a very weak opioid), benzos for sleep if you have access although I guess dipenhydramine if benzos aren't an option, potassium can help with the rls and vitamins in general are a good idea to help aide the body and brain to normalize as fast as possible. All else is will power not to use anymore if that is your goal. Good luck!

EDIT: Forgot to agree about the Kratom too. VERY helpful for me (makes me feel 'alive' again). Just don't develop a big habit with that as it can have wds of it's own not to mention the benzos too. Benzo withdrawals are said to be worse than opiate withdrawal.

Hey John- Hope you check in to let us know how you're doing. Many of us...in fact, probably most of us, have been through it and more than once.

Something, I forgot to mention, as Johndoe mentioned about "feeling alive again" - Rx's for Neurontin (Gabapentin) and even better Lyrica (Pregablin) has done that for me.

It is not an easy thing-there's no way around that. I personally didn't medically detox-I had to do it cold-turkey off a pretty substantial amount of opiates, and some years of use...but, I had to go to a chronic pain program, where the people coming in were being medically detoxed.

From observing them, I could tell it was made more bearable. They ate (?), slept (?), functioned in general. That is the way to go if you are able to. There is a lot of good advice here-and it's from people that have actually really used their own advice. I've taken Loperamide (Immodium) many times to get through it. And w the advice given above-DXM with it, some form of benzo to help you sleep....and stay hydrated the best that you can!!

It's not hopeless-though it feels like it when you're overwhelmed, going through withdrawal, out of money. You are amongst friends.

Thought i already posted this but i donst see it here now so.. I dont knoe ehy u decided to get high everyday and keep doing it even tho u knew there were withdrawls and u did iy anyway is very hard to comprehend, but once u quiy get high about once a week and ull be way higher also u wont have any negative side effects. Keep buyin oxy tho and gettin high but keep at 0 tolerance

John-Question. Is it your intention to quit or just get through the withdrawals and tone it down a notch? Won't judge you either way just wanna know. I personally have to take opioids to control my chronic pain (okay maybe it doesn't have to be opioids per se but I've given the non-opioid options a fair shot and they just don't work for me so we can say opioids are what I prefer) so I'm sorta stuck on the boat by choice. Knowing your intentions can help us better tailor our advice for you.

agree 100% just take a tolerance break i tried life sober it sucks. as for WDs immodium AD and benzos. oh and could you UTFSE i bet if you would have phreex guide to narcotic withdrawl would have shown up.

Yes...knowing if you're trying to get your usage "in control" per se, as in the case of chronic pain. In the chronic pain program I was in, which was excellent, they didn't rip everyone off of opiates. There were some that needed to get their meds under control. Chronic pain is a complex issue in itself. Hoping, no matter what the case is, you are ok. PM me anytime if you'd like to.

Thank you everyone for all of the support. I didn't even know that anyone responded to this thrrad. I thought I would get emails on updates to this thread. I guess I should of been checking. So with all of that bring said, I failed to stop! I feel like such a loser. I borrowed money from a friend to buy more oxy. My plan is to stop all together. I have never been subcribed any pain killers by a doctor only have been taking them recreationally. Wish I never started. I'm going to thoroughly read all of the comments you've all posted. One of the main reasons I want to stop is because of the toll it's putting on my wallet. My bank account is negative $500 every 2 weeks after getting paid. I can barely pay my bills and am behind on everything. Taking oxy has put me $33,000 in credit card debt.

Sorry to make these posts so long I just have no one to talk about my problems. I have 1 10 mg pill left and am going to try to take half tomorrow and half on Tuesday and that's all. I get paid on Wednesday and will prob have about $30 to buy OTC stuff to help me. I'm really scared of withdrawls. Do you guys think if I make a Doctors appointment they will give me something to help with the withdrawls? Thanks again everyone for your help and looking forward to hearing more and talk me through this tough time in my life. I need to kick this oxy habit once and for all!

Whether or not your doc will prescribe you anything depends on the doctor. A They MAY be willing to prescribe you some comfort meds short term to help ease the withdrawals, stuff like clonidine, gabapentin, a benzo like Xanax, Ativan, or Valium, or heck maybe they'd even be willing help you do a 7 day detox using suboxone but the chances of that last one are slim to nil. You may want to see if there is a suboxone clinic in your area that will be willing to assist you with a quick 7 day taper detox. Just don't do that long term as that is a beast in and of itself to get off.

Read through the comments above, there is loads of good info there. If all else fails and you have to do it cold turkey without any comfort meds that aren't OTC then use the search engine here for Phreex Guide to Narcotic Withdrawal. Very good info there.

Good luck and keep us posted.
