land of nod, setting my bedroom on fire with cigar
i'm a recovering heroin/opiate (and benzos and to a lesser extent stims addict) and i've been clean about 8-9 weeks now. started rehab and i haven't even had a beer in this time.

i'm exercising, eating, sleeping well and everything, but i just feel so fucking run down a lot of the time. like it's an effort to walk to another room and i have very little motivation to do anything. just utter fatigue.

does this sound familiar to anyone else, and if so, what was your experience? did you get over it? any tips?

my use of cigarettes has went up in these 9 weeks, but only to 10-15 a day, max.

thanks

Good for you!

That's a lot of cigs in my book, but I guess it could be a lot worse.

It depends on many factors. Unfortunately no one can tell you when you're going to feel better, only that you will once you get enough clean time.

How long were you abusing recreational drugs?

It may seem like it's been forever, but two months isn't that long.

I struggle with intense fatigue, too. It was recommended that I see my general practitioner doctor to make sure there weren't any physical health problems present. Basically it was a blood test. It might be a good idea for you to get such tests done.

Caffeine used moderately can help. Getting involved in hobbies which don't involve drugs/people who use drugs is always recommended. Reading a good book, meditating, exercise (which I see you already do), and doing a good deed for someone else always make me feel better.

No experience with this but I would presume this is normal, that your brain and body chemistry is readjusting itself now that the flow of toxicity has been stopped. You're doing all the right things.. unfortunately time is something we can't change. The body is pretty remarkable at healing itself, so be content in knowing you'll feel even better soon. Good job :)

Just wrote a big post and lost it somehow so I apologise if I write twice! Well done on your journey!!

I used the 12wk Champix program to quit smoking (a 20yr habit) and it's the only way I've been able to quit - 5m free now :) happy to answer any questions!

If you haven't had a good doctor visit for a checkup/physical in a while that might be a good idea as well. I myself kinda neglected to do that for awhile and found the reason for my fatigue was diabetes. I manage it now and feel much much better.

Can you tell me your age and years addicted before getting clean? Also are you obese?

Your body has been under the influence of a pharmaceutical compound for so long that it caused chemical/hormonal changes that can be reversed for the most part, but you have to think if it took someone two to three years to become a wreck. Then it is going at least a little while to recover. Your brain has been altered beyond recognition and it takes some time to adapt to the suddenly new environment of no compounds abusing the reward system and being generally sedentary.

Drinking a lot of coffee, smoking cigarettes excessively etc is usually a common thing for recovering addicts. We subconsciously transfer one addiction onto another. However which addiction is worse is the debatable part.

Energy could be multitude of things. All those compounds could have definitely altered your HPTA and you may be suffering from Low T. However which part of the axis that is deficient is what determines the treatment (damage to hypothalamus, pituitary, testicles)
