Question Resperitory Depression

After taking CNS depressants, how do you know when your breathing is just slow and when you're heading towards resperitory depression?

When I've taken high doses of Codeine before, I feel like my heart is going too fast (although heart rate is 60-80BPM and not tachycardic) for my breathing rate?

I suppose when you're heart rate increases, your breathing rate does to? But honestly, I feel like my breathing rate and heart rate aren't in 'rhythm'.

I feel like I can't take a deep enough breath to feel my lungs fill up, so I become quite aware of my breathing and have to literally take deep breathes every 2-4 normal breathes to feel as if I'm breathing properly, or my chest feels weird in a suffocating way.

Honestly though, it's not a panic attack. I've had countless panic attacks in my life and this isn't one, it's not like a panic attack I would experience.

This is called Respiratory Depression. It is common with opiates. I've noticed codeine to cause this more so than hydrocodone. I believe the opiates cause this much easier than the opioids. But that's just my opinion.

When respiratory depression becomes a problem is when you go to sleep and the respiratory system gets more & more depressed then eventually shuts down and you overdose.

Codeine @ 300mg would have me taking very heavy breaths and it almost became voluntary.

Nothing to compare to the PNS effects from heavy dosing stimulants. Now that is far scarier than respiratory depression.

Sorry I couldn't get at you earlier, I was too drunk last night when you made this thread and I felt as though I shouldn't be on the focus forums/drug discussion.
