Question about Opana and nerves

Okay, this is complicated so idk if anyone can really help me. I was in a car accident years ago that led to permanent nerve damage in my back and neck.

Nowadays, I have a heavy opana habit. Insufflation of maybe 60-80mg per day. Lately, I have noticed a funny thing: when I run out and go through withdrawal, one of my symptoms is that my left arm goes numb from the elbow down and twitches/spasms uncontrollably.

Now seeing as how I have nerve damage, this may not be related to my withdrawal on Opana. Then again it might be. However, before my opana habit I was once prescribed Paxil (an SSRI) and before I got used to the drug, the same thing would happen to my arm after I took a dose. It would be numb from my elbow down and I would have the constant feeling that I needed to twitch my arm.

Now, does anyone know what this could be? Could it simply be just another withdrawal symptom? Even though it happened before I took Opana as well? The reason I think it may be related is because it ONLY happens when I'm withdrawing. But it also happened when I took my Paxil dose before my body became used to that drug.

No, I am not on Paxil anymore and I do not mix Paxil and Opana. So, what do you fellow Bluelighters think? Is it just my brain withdrawing from opana, telling me to get more? Or does this sound like an unrelated nerve problem that needs to get looked at?

Also, when it does happen, does anyone know how I can help to stop it? Thank you!

You stated that you got the same twitch from Paxil as well but wasn't on Paxil long enough to be in withdrawal after stopping. It seems it could be related to certain sorts of chemicals affecting certain parts of the brain which cause the twitching.

Of course 80mg of Opana a day is a nice size dose, it isn't as big as some I've read on here & you have legitimate needs to use it.

As for trying to calm the twitching, have you tried a benzo like Valium or a muscle relaxer like Soma?

First off, thank you for understanding my legitimate need for the Opana, it isn't easy being in constant turmoil every day. I actually went 5 months clean before I let the pain break me...

No, I haven't tried benzo or muscle relaxers, that's why I was thinking of contacting my neurologist and asking him about it. Maybe that's all I need is a relaxer for when it gets bad.

Of course I can't really say "well I do have this opana habit and that helps the problem soooo..."

The central nervous system is composed of the brain and spinal cord, and the peripheral nervous system involves nerve signaling from the brain and spinal cord to the rest of the body.

The damage caused in the accident could have short cicuited if you will the signals that are transfered causing you to twitch under certain circumstances.

I'm hoping the muscle relaxers will relax the arm but remember that mixing Soma & opiates can be dangerous. Just be careful with your dosages.

Thank you for the information and your help, it was all very informative and helpful!

If I do go down the relaxer/soma route I WILL be careful. I am nowhere near opiate naive, my habit of 60-80mg a day is actually the result of about a month of tapering from near 200mg a day and when available, I have done much more.

Of course I know that even a tolerance won't help if I'm not smart with dosing. Maybe I will call my neurologist and inform him about my arm spasms, and see what he says/prescribes me.

Again, thank you for your help
