I kind of picture any remembering of an event is a flash of sorts...so an intense exp like a trip naturally has a trippy rainbow coloured flash lol.
Depending on how you integrate your exps will vary how you associate with that memory. If you integrate the exp well the emotions connected to it get bound in a tidy manner, if you do not (whether by conscious negligence or trauma from the exp) then recalling this memory releases a whirlwind of emotions and thoughts which were never fully made sense of ...its all association in the neuro patterns. What you will receive in your present from reflecting on your exps (whether consciously pondering on them, or sporadically having some minute association to the memory) is dependent on how well you've digested the exp (ie how you currently associate the memory).
I believe this is the correlation to trauma as mentioned above, trauma is something shocking to the extent that we are left not at peace with the memory and are unable to rationalize and fully integrate it harmoniously. In terms of trips I don't think trauma is necessarily always from bad trip events, there could be a moment of bliss or puzzling excitement which is left unintegrated and never fully rationalizable by our minds. These unfinished associations are where 'flashback' potential lies I believe.
That's my thoughts on it at least.
To op, if your current regimen of use is leaving you hesitant about potential perceptual aftereffects, then maybe that is your cue to tone it down a notch... ? I tripped a lot and was not made into an 'acid casualty' as they say, but the tripped out aftereffects I received for the years following my heavy tripping (more than you're saying, probably 5–6x a month for a few years at least)practices were trippy and noticeable enough to freak out most people.
Best wishes, all will be well. Do what you know to be right
And meditate to integrate the madness experienced in the psychedelic strata...!
