I know the the hypertension/blood pressure med clonidine can be used during opiate withdrawal. My question is could another med used to treat hypertension/blood pressure be used to treat opiate withdrawal? The drug i'm talking about is Lasix/Furose it's a loop diuretic but it's used to treat hypertention and High blood pressure. I think this may be a stupid question because they both work in totally different ways but just to be sure i thought i would see if anyone had more knowledge on this?

I cant find anything on lasix/furose being used in opiate withdrawal anywhere, And i dont have the knowledge to understand if it would have a similar effect. I'm currently not withdrawaling from opiates and dont know anyone who is(At the moment). I just got out of withdrawal and was online and looked up clonidine under hypertension/High blood pressure medicine and found out that lasix/furose is used to treat the same symptoms. I assume that because they work in completely different way then lasix/furose would'nt work the same, But i want your opinion! Please?

Clonidine is caca anyway. Before there was buprenorphine, I'd be given clonidine or catapress (the clonidine patch) for my wd's. Withdrawal on clonidine seemed no easier than the turkish withdrawal: not one bit.

Plus with furosemide I'd be concerned about dehydration during wd (as you're already purging & sweating & in no mood to drink water).

Now that there's bupe, it's weird that clonidine is still being prescribed for withdrawal. It's as if a doctor today prescribed me potassium bromide for panic attacks (except that KBr actually works).

It's not used to treat hypertension in withdrawl, but to reduce the overall excessive sympathetic activity (gooseflesh, shivers, sweating etc)that comes with opiate withdrawl (it's an alpha 2 agonist -alpha 2 receptors are the negative feedback part of sympathetic receptors so stimulatuing them is like putting a foot on the brake). Hypertension is just one of many symptoms

Bromides? 8o I thought they went out with the arc after barbiturate etc were invented. Brominism is a nasty condition & if some silly sod decides to inject KBr they will stop their heart rather quickly (KCl is used for lethal injections as the K+ ions will stop the heart from propagating muscle contractions)

Yeah i just thought i would ask. I did'nt think it would work but no harm in asking! I use the stuf(lasix/furosemide) to cut up in the summer time, Take like 20-40mgs a day for a week before a pool party/vacation and that shit will really cut you up. Removes all the water from your muscles giving you a shredded look. Thanks for the knowledge.

Oh and dont take lasix unless you have a good multi vitamin and potassium supplement just to be on the safe side, Or you good bring a lot more potassium into your diet with bannanas and some other natural fruits and what not.

I am not a doctor and am not responsible if anyone decides to be as stupid as me and use furosemide when not under the strict care of a physician.
