I have been looking this up and can not find an answer that directly relates to my question.
Suppose a person has been prescribed and taken a benzo like Klonopin nightly for a number of years. Said person lost insurance and can not see doctor. To avoid withdrawal could a person like that take another benzo instead? Is the chemistry close enough to convince the body not to go into withdrawal? Between Valium and Ativan which would be closer to a daily dose of Klonopin?
I know the difference in the half-lives and am not concerned so much about that as dosing is really not the issue. Obviously Valium (like Klonopin) has a longer half-life than Ativan. I just want to know if another medication in the same class (benzo) would be sufficient until RX for Klonopin was able to be obtained.
Thanks!
