Question about Adderall

I have adhd and so am prescribed legally 30mg of adderall xr, I am new to it. about a week in. The first dose made me very euphoric and honestly i wasnt expecting it, it was a absolute wonderful experience. A few days later the euphoria stopped. I'm not entirely sure if i can really feel the Adderall too much at all. My question is that even if you don't necassarily feel the drug like you used to is it still taking effect? I do believe I am still just about as attentive and nearly as clear-minded as i was on about the second day (because the first day just cannot be beat).

What you described seems pretty normal. You're not supposed to be getting mind-blowing euphoria off of your meds every day. Do not abuse your meds if you want to keep the therapeutic effects of the drug.

Oh yes, I have researched much about adderall in the past week hand have definetly felt the urge to take over the dose, however i refrain, though i do see an increase in cigarettes smoked. But yea i know the euphoria wouldnt last, but im really just trying to figure out if youre not really suppose to feel adderall at all, not the euphoric part of it, but there wouldnt be any kind of non euphoric feeling that people get that strongly ensures them the drug is working

It really depends on the person man, that's why doctors prescribe different doses for people. If you're Adderall is working you should be able to focus on tasks until they are completed at work or school. If you have a reading assignment you should be able to read consistently without your mind drifting off. IF you really feel the urge to take more than maybe give your script to a family member, partner, or friend, and have them give you your dose every day. Stay safe and I hope this medicine works for you, I am on vyvanse for my adhd and it works great.

I had to switch from adderall to vyvanse bc my ADHD basically made me keep thinking the dose was wearing off. It was terrible, I kept psyching myself out and my doc at the time seemed perfectly fine with prescribing absurd amounts of that shit. After about 4 months of that I realized I was basically high all the time and the excessive dosing was making my ADHD symptoms worse. I take 1 70mg vyvanse when I wake up now, it lasts 12-14 hours I have no loss of appetite and my ADHD is finally being treated. It's a rough road finding what works for you especially since doctors base their dosing on the effects perceived by the patient and we all have impulse control issues from the ADHD. Remember what I forgot for 4 months: euphoria/stimulation doesn't mean your ADHD is being treated correctly.

The euphoria will come back if you don't take the Adderall everyday.

Prescribed adderall isn't supposed to make you clench your jaw, move like a crack head and make you want to accomplish everything at once.

Really if you're focused and have energy to do every day tasks without altering your personality or inhibitions too much, I say that's better than euphoria.

I just wanna make it clear... Im not trying to chase the euphoria. I just want to know pretty much how i can tell if the adderall is or is not doing a good job. i just want to be like a normal person without ADD

Mind your doses man. Even at a low dose adderall can fix ADD. I'd rather have ADD than the anxiety/OCD that is attributed with too much.

I had a similar first-time reaction. Two months ago, I switched to Adderall after 5 years on Concerta (which only gave me so-so results, though no side effects), and thought is was great...but on day #2 I thought I caught some "bug" going around, and only realized a week or two ago it simply did not work for me. I had every side-effect in the book, plus some that weren't even mentioned, and felt lousy all the time. Meanwhile, the short-acting Dexedrine tablets (for afternoon-evening) worked wonderfully, with no crash, and no side-effects. If you don't feel like you are on anything, but are focused and getting more things done than usual, you are likely at or near the right dose. I personally never get any euphoria, from any ADHD medication. The Dexedrine doesn't make me euphoric, but does make me less anxious, even relaxed, because I am actually getting things done without mental chaos. But we each react differently, so you need to see how it works--for you--over the long haul.

from DENTTDKR: "I take 1 70mg vyvanse when I wake up now, it lasts 12-14 hours I have no loss of appetite and my ADHD is finally being treated."

Have you ever been on Dexedrine spansules? If so, how does Vyvance compare? I recently switched from Concerta to Adderall, but Adderall is intolerable for me, so I discontinued, and am using the short-acting Dexedrine 3 times per day, until my next appointment. My doctor says he will prescribes Dexedrine spansules on the next visit, but that they only last 6 - 8 hours. My morning dose is part of my routine, but I always seem to forget the next dose, so a single dose lasting 12-14 hours sounds great!

I don't get why doctors prescribe so high

I mean so many who are prescribed high doses right off the bat, say as in this case 30mg, its too much and far beyond what they actually need to control their ADHD. If doctors would simply start off at say 5mg then the person themselves or others around them to report what their like whether their ADHD smptoms have gone and if not keep upping the dose, then that will save an amphetaminenaive person from

1) Being prescribed such high dose when a low dose would work, with less sides
2) Experiencing what sort of euphoria/pleasure they can get out of taking more and because they dont no what theyre missing theyl stick to their prescribed dose and not be as inclined to abuse

I bet half the people who were naive to amphetamines were prescribed a dose to quickly that made them see what amps can feel like when abused and hence they are aware of the potential and ended up abusing.

Anyway to the OP, dont chase the high with ADHD meds if you dont want them to stop working on you! Over the next few weeks you'll notice as each day goes by you'll feel less and less of the med working in the sense of it is altering your concious to next to unable to feel it, however do not judge whetehr its working by how you can feel it, judge it by how well your day goes by and take notes every hour or so of what youve done and how you have behaved. Even more helpful, get some close to you to observe you throughout the day and if they comment your ADHD symptoms are gone then your med is working.

I don't get why doctors prescribe so high

I couldn't agree more. My doctor gives me the flexibility to adjust effects with short-acting tablets for the evening, but the capsules come "As-Is," and for me, 20 mg Adderall XR (plus a 10 mg tablet in the evening) was way too much, and produced killer side effects. Although I am now doing great with 30 mg per day of tablets, spaced about 5 hours apart. But maybe the different salts would have offered me some benefits in smaller quantities, with half of a short-acting tablets for my morning and evening classes. Who knows?I like the option of experimenting with the dosage on my own, because you simply do not see the doctor often enough to put him or her 100% in charge.
