pull-out method

There are many factors involved in estimating the effectiveness of the "pull out" method, including, but not limited to timing, penis size and sheer luck.

I've heard before that it is 80% effective, but I sucessfully used it for 5 years without incident. Well, my wife didn't ovulate, so I didn't HAVE to pull out...

Good luck with your thing. You'll likely be a parent sooner than later.

I have used the pull and pray method for almost all of my sexual history (which goes back to Jan '02). Haven't had a problem with it yet.

spork-- condoms fail, too, though. Just last night my best friend was having sex and his condom broke. Kthx. Really, nothing is fool-proof except abstinence.

Most stuff I have read suggests that the success rate is somewhere around 65%... Not stellar, but not horrible. I'm on birth control, but due to my fucked up hormones, I still *almost* always use a condom. When i dont' use one, I always make the guy pull out. May as well try to reduce the risk, ya know? However, sperm is in preejaculate, so really all bets are off the second you don't use a condom...

Perhaps, but what about protection from STD's? Surely you can understand the value of condoms to protect against disease. 8)

Honestly.

People who play with fire deserve to get burned.

There are many other methods of protection besides condoms and the pill. Get informed - otherwise expect consequences. It's just a pity when a child is the result of ignorance and laziness.:|

The failure rate of withdrawal is ludicrously high when compared to the failure rate of condoms. The highest I have heard cited for withdrawal is about 80% effectiveness, and that's with perfect use which practically no one can do. The lowest I have heard cited for condoms is 92% effectiveness. Personal anecdotes don't mean very much when put against statistics. I'm glad it worked for you-- but you're one person out of several million for whom the statistics hold steady.

Condoms are cheap, the pill isn't as cheap but still reasonable, the hormone shot is a bit more expensive but something you only worry about every three months, an IUD is quite expensive but protects you for three/five years (depending which one you get). STD's and babies though, those can be a lifelong cost.

- well im on the pill but i like pull-out method to play with cum.

- but its effectiveness without other contraception, wouldn't risk it.

no wonder the USA has one of the most rapidly rising incidences of AIDS and other STDs if this is the kind of attitude shared by some people.

Fuck getting pregnant, you are far more likely to pick up and spread diesase.

Obviously if you are in a relationship and you both know that you are clean, then thats different. But how do you know that someone you have slept with hasn't got some nasty STD? Because they don't look like the kind of person that would have one? I have heard my mates say that all the time after picking up chlamydia etc from a nice sweet 18 year old.

I'm absolutely amazed that even after millions of dollars spent on trying to educate the public on how to minimize the risks of speading disease, we still don't really care about it.

^^^^^ wtf? how the hell do you know if you need it until you realise you are pregnant?

'I can't get pregnant if he pulls out.

Not true. Pulling out, also known as withdrawal, means that a man pulls his penis out of the vagina before he "comes" to keep sperm from joining egg. It is only 81 percent-96 percent effective in preventing pregnancy. Pregnancy can happen even if the guy pulls out, if he doesn't ejaculate, or doesn't put his penis all the way in. Here's why: when a guy gets aroused, he produces a fluid called pre-ejaculate ("pre-cum"), which can contain sperm — particularly if he's had sex or masturbated earlier in the last couple of days. When the fluid leaks from the penis before a guy comes, it can cause pregnancy.

Pulling out is not a very reliable method for young people because some guys lack the experience and self-control to pull out in time, or they say they will pull out, and then they get so excited and carried away that they don't. Also, some guys can't tell when they are going to ejaculate. '

I know that this is a very crude way of using statistics but....... that would mean that if 100 people use this method, around 4 to 19 of them would become pregnant. Just imagine if you have sex 100 times..........

I agree that the pull-out method is as valid a contraceptive method as condoms and the pill etc. However, it has the highest chance of failure out of all the other methods.

But disease aspect aside, its your body and your choice so i guess whatever works for you is cool

i'm not trying to argue with you ibizachick, but how can you disagree with proven medical statistics?

I completely believe that this method has been working fine for you for the last 3 years, but in light of the medical evidence, wouldn't you say this is more due to good luck than this 'reliable' method of contraception?

If you have sex around 150 times per year, for the last 3 years, that would make a total of 450 times without pregnancy. A 100% success rate. Sounds too good to be true if you ask me.

So because condoms fail, you should use an even shittier method of birth control?

from a textbook (Principles of Anatomy and Physiology 10th ed., Tortora and Grabwoski, 2003):

Failure rate under perfect use:
Condom: 3%
Coitus interruptus: 4%

Failure rate under typical use (includes people that forgot to use the method):
Condoms: 14%
Coitus interruptus: 18%

figures are the percentage of women having an unintended pregnancy during their first year of using the contraception method

Not to worry you ibizachick, but if my friend was regularly beating those sort of odds on a withdrawal method, I'd be recommending she see a doctor - either that or writing to Guinness.
