Well this experience happened to me, all of the details were gathered at a later point from various sources of individuals who were present, from doctors, and my own deductions.
I have no memory of the events proceeding my hospitalization nor do I have any memory of the events during my hospitalization.
Age: 29
Mental Disorders: Depression/Mania
Substances for sure taken: 5-methoxy-DALT (25-100mg); etizolam (dependent, 125mg/day--very high I know
); buprenorphine (only Rx'd medication, 4mg/day)
Substances possibly taken, i had been fucking w/ them leading up till this point, do not know if I had them on me or not as all my substances were destroyed by my grandparents: 3-methoxy-PCP (if had possession, had several hundred milligrams); miprocin/4-hydroxy-MiPT (several hundred milligrams)
So my memory slowly came to, and there were 3-4 weeks missing out of my life. My grandmother had apparently walked downstairs on me hallucinating various things floating in the air at 3-4am in the morning. I was hospitalized with seizures that day, was taken off all medications. I do not know if it was communicated whether or not I was on benzodiazepines b/c I was also hospitalized w/ catatonia. This lasted for at least 3 weeks, I was put on Abilify & Ativan/lorazepam.
I was shortly then moved to a major city hospital one hour away, university hospital of cleveland, where I was treated--put back on my buprenorphine/subutex & assuming I was put on lorazepam.
I slowly regained my normal functions (ability to feed myself & communicate, as i was mute & catatonic for the majority of the time). The seizures were uncontrollable except w/ higher doses of lorazepam (6mg/day). I would have normally thought this was merely a result of benzodiazepine withdrawal syndrome (or rather, thienodiazepine w/ds), but I was contacted by the intern doctors after my discharge saying I was lucky to have recovered & that my case is being studied for the types of seizures/movements I was having which apparently have little documentation in medical literature.
They asked for permission to study & submit my case to the American Journal of Neurology, which I granted. They said over the phone my case was a result of 5-methoxy-DALT most likely, and nothing more. At the time I was reluctant to further press for more details which I regret in retrospect (will get more details if/when they call again, but the study will not begin for some time).
Anyway, I could see this being a reaction of catatonia, apparent psychosis, & seizures being a nasty reaction to the 5-methoxy-DALT and/or any of the other aforementioned substances (but the doctors did not mention the presence of these, if they had the ability to test for them)--but not for weeks??
And even if i were tripping to hard to forget my etizolam & this put my into precipitated withdrawal, why would this last so long if i were put on Ativan? Unless, it took this long for me to get accustomed to the lower doses of benzodiazepines in my system (as i would have had to be on at least 250mg of lorazepam to equal the amount of GABAergics I was dependent upon). However, the doctors made no mention of this.
Anyway insight or comments are welcome.
Note: since this time, aside from one minor relapse, I have been clean--have weaned off benzodiazepines all together & am just on my buprenorphine. This incident occurred in August 2014, I had a minor relapse in September, have been clean since September 4th.
