Psychonaut Audiophiles?

13 drives? that uses a ton of power and makes noise - audible and EMF!
LOL - unless you got some reason for RAID (and obviously not RAID-1)

I've got a pair of AKG K702's running through my preamp... utter bliss

Also, some behringer TRUTH studio monitors -- great quality, but my neighbor's a bitch so they usually just chill collecting dust.

Nothing like hi-fi tunes when you're tripping!

13?!?! How is this possible? My PC case has 10 drive bays, one of which is taken up by a DVD drive, and another by a card reader. Two are hard drives, and I don't even think my motherboard has 10 SATA inputs...
I've got a Rocket Raid card in there, 7 are connected to the mobo and the other 6 running in Raid-5 config. I could post a picture but I'm in the hospital right now, might do it when I get out if i remember.

argh, was looking to get some decent earphones from the long list of suggested here, but most arent available where im at.
though i must admit, once the "feeling" kicks in, even the standard earphones connected to my phone sound world shattering. i am almost afraid to think on how hooked i could get on music+ decent cans.

that being said, any suggestions on what to look for in earphones? or is it the same as with everything else, look in shops, look at reviews, compare, buy?

and whats your mobile music player of choice? is it the ipod? the zen?

I've been collecting music for years and I'm a huge audiophile without cash to blow =D. I need everything in FLAC (for archive purposes mainly, though I do discern a difference between V0 and FLAC at higher volumes on quality equipment). I plan on building my music collection till the day I die. Everything is perfectly organized from the folders to the tags. It's the one area in my life that is actually completely organized and neat.

About a year ago I purchased a pair of Audioengine A5 bookshelf speakers and an HT Omega 7.1 Striker sound card. I have to say it is one of the best purchases of my life. I had a pair of Head Direct RE0 earbuds but my iPod got stolen at a festival and I've been without a portable player for a year. I just picked up another iPod and rockbox'd it, but I'm still without headphones. I'm not sure if I wanna get another pair of IEMs or cans...

I also am a novice musician with very rudimentary guitar, piano, and djembe skills. The thing I love about music while tripping is the ability to feel the rhythm and observe how a piece is composed.

music = life

^You play the djembe? Friggin sweet!

I'm not sure about you, but I've yet to find a decent pair of cans, in terms of balanced sound quality. Open cans seem to sound alot better to my ears; far more clarity and ability to distinguish between the close frequencies, especially in the low-midrange. IEMs are just far more preferable all-round, for true audio representation and for comfort and hygeine. I can hear far more detail in IEMs, tighter and faster bass.

Now if u lookin just for a general earphone within a certain budget just search google or headfi for like 'best cans under 200$' or get more specific like 'best open cans for soundstage and bass (and you can also add like 'under 200')' and because they've been around so long almost every search turns up what your looking for.
You can also just post a thread asking for advice and stating your musical preferences.
But it all depends. Do you want 'warm' earphones or 'cold' earphones, full sized cans or IEMs, colorful or transparent? All you need to do is find out what you want and do a little search FUCK YEAH!'

cowon mp3 players ftw. loveeee my s9

Oh btw i doubt you'll find any decent earphones in shops unless you look REALLL hard and ask around and google the fuck out of google.

RAID-5? yuck... RAID-1 OR 1+0 is the way to go.

i believe the difference to be discernible ...especially if the content is atonal and involves a lot transient noises.... most credible research indicates that the difference is negligible tho tbf....and i might be put off of mp3s simply from having heard too many mp3 vinyl rips (which are usually awful)

"...The result is a listening experience that spatially transcends normally recorded stereo, since it accurately reproduces the effect of hearing a sound in person, given the 360° nature of how human ears pick up nuance in the sound waves. Binaural recordings can very convincingly reproduce location of sound behind, ahead, above, or wherever else the sound actually came from during recording"

Might want to check out Ottmar Liebert's "Up Close" album, or others recorded with binaural sound... probably super cool and intense and transporting while tripping. I have it and heard it not tripping with phones and it is a VERY beautiful ecord, and it really does sound like you are actually RIGHT THERE inside a real 3D soundfield, on stage, in the middle of the performers gathered all around you... awesome!

A binaural dummy head recording, sometimes also called holophonics. The listener has to use headphones to experience the 3D surround-sound quality of the music since the recording uses the head-related transfer function. Recorded live-to-stereo in August of 2007. No edits were made and the volume was not compressed.
