Are there any? Is there any way to find out, save for calling each and every one on the phone?

Maybe there's some kind of program/information/guide for those who are really struggling both mentally and financially to get adequate psychiatric care?

I'd been looking and asking different doctors for the best part of ten years until I moved to a different side of the city and saw a new doctor, and he just referred me to a psych and added "Oh btw,he bulk bills".I almost fell out of my chair! I said "Oh he must have a long waiting list then?" and the doctor is like "No,I think you might have to wait 2-3 weeks to see him".So I've been seeing him ever since and he's great.

I did see one in Kingsford who was on Anzac Pde from memory who bulk billed, but he was absolutely crap, and I stopped going after 3 sessions.Sorry I can't remember his name, but you could try your luck and call around psychs in that area.

If you're in Sydney and desperately need a psych, add me on msn and I can give you some info :)

I think my GP was able to tell me whether the psychiatrist bulk billed or not, but I'm not 100% as my memory isn't the best. I've only been to 2 psychiatrists, and they were both useless. I hope you have better luck than I have.
The last psychiatrist I saw though was $400 and something dollars per hour, and all I had to pay was a $20 gap and medicare covered the rest.

They do exist, though I'm not aware of any sort of handy directory to find them. I don't see any reason why clinics/practices would object to you calling and asking if any of them bulk bill - it's a common issue :)

I know of at least 2 that are situated in western Sydney, if anyone is interested PM me and Ill tell you their details

mister I tried PMing you and it seemed to go through, but then I realised as a greenlighter,I'm not allowed to send PMs :? So um,could you please PM me the details? My psych bulk bills but is getting close to retirement age,so having some back ups would be most reassuring and appreciated <3

Does anyone know any in Adelaide? I'm pretty sure I'm developing some sort of psychosis from all the benzo's I've been prescribed, and I need to talk to someone about it. Preferably who I can be honest to, I work on mine sites and don't wanna admit that i'm drug dependent to the local gp in case it ends up on my record

Minion I'm not in Adelaide, but I could PM you the name and email of the benzo addiction specialist I saw in Sydney. When I emailed him initially asking for help he was very friendly and knowledgable, and you never know,he may be able to suggest someone in Adelaide? *shrug* Just a thought anyway,I've been where you are,and it sucks :-/

Got you PM, MissNervosa and sent you the details :)

Does any one know of one is Brisbane? I had a look at some of the pricing just for a one time consultation, and it's insanely expensive.

see your GP. they'll be able to sort out a mental health care plan for you to see either a psychologist or psychiatrist without any out of pocket expenses. there's also the chance that there are none availale within a short distance of you in the city so you may have to travel across town, possibly.

im one with dais. see your gp. im going back today to sort out my appointment with a psyc. if your in the gold coast area there are a couple, sadly i think he mentioned it wont be till mid september ill be able to see one but they are around. it took me an hour at the doc yesterday for him to find one, but it was worth the wait. goodluck with it all

My Psychiatrist bulk bills :) he mainly does children/adolescent age but makes exceptions sometimes. He's just outside Adelaide in the hills, great guy. Older psychiatrists are the best ones I've found. That said I'd be cautious referring anyone from bluelight.

I've seen a few over the years when parents were trying to find out what was wrong with me. Got inattentive ADD diagnosis every time :\

Mental health care plan sounds like a good idea. Ask your doctor if they have any recommendations on who to see. For benzo/psychosis stuff I'd probably contact Drug and Alcohol services and see if they have a list of ones that deal with that kind of thing, they're usually pretty helpful.

I suppose it's even harder to find one of these if you don't live in a major city ie. melbs, sydney?

Anyone traveling a huge distance to see their psych?

Hi, I notice you sent this in 2012 but just wondered if you would please be able to send the details of the psych in Sydney? If you can it would be much appreciated, thanks.

Mine does, but only for "existing relationship" clients.

I know there's one in Marrickville who does, but she's a bit "less is more" when it comes to medications (which doesn't work for everyone) and is vehemently opposed to ADHD meds.

My experience is that you really need to go to a psychiatrist that specialises in ADHD if you think you have the condition and you want medication. There are a couple of good ones in Sydney but from my research none bulk bill and none gives a discounted rate for new patients with a Health Care Card.

Once find the meds that work for you the psych can get your local gp to do new scripts. It's $180 before the medicare rebate for each 20 minute appointment I have with my psych so trying the different medications has been a very expensive exercise for me :/

Yes, I agree that this is how it usually goes. The psychiatrist I referred to doesn't just not prescribe ADHD meds, though - she won't treat you for anything else while you're taking them, and if you are referred to her with an existing ADHD diagnosis and script, she insists that you get off them and labels you a drug seeker if you won't.
