Saw this thread, couldn't resist. Being a herpetoculturist, meaning someone whos hobby is keeping reptiles and amphibians, I know how hard these are to keep. They require a large, specialized enclosure, specialized care and specialized food. Bufo alvarius are nothing like other members of the bufo genus, and the Sonoran desert toad is one of the only known psychoactive toads. Even if you can care for one, they are damn near impossible to get. They can not be exported from Arizona, and in order to collect them in Arizona you need a Scientific Collectors Permit. Good luck getting one of these, unless you know a herpetologist doing a study on these guys, willing to give you a permit to extract venom and deplete the numbers of an already endangered species. If you think you can beat the law and just catch a specimen, you will most likely get some other frog or bufo species if you don't know what you're doing, and if you are really stupid and aren't even in the right range, you might get a Marine toad (Bufo marinus) or another toxic species. Stick to weed and mushrooms.
