I do not understand why people take opiate PILLS, get addicted, and feen for it when they can slam the real thing like Heroin. I do not get it!!! If you are going to get high, do the best right? Can someone explain it to me? Is it a needle thing? Is it because you feel like less of an addict? Is it accepted more? What????
I personally think it is a waste. I do not want anyone going out and slamming of course, but if your going to get high on opiates, then get high the right way. I've been clean for 11 years and proud of it, but I never forgot the motto I lived by when I was a heroin addict: If you slam it you taste it, if you snort it or eat it you waste it.
Please enlighten me.

Personally I like pharmaceutical opiates because I know exactly what I am getting -- 30mg of oxycodone, 40mg of oxymorphone, 5mg of oxycodone and 325mg of APAP -- by the markings and color of the pills. With heroin and other street drugs sold by people trying to make as much money as they can, you don't know what it's cut with and what strength it is and it can vary from bag to bag and bundle to bundle. If they made pharmaceutical grade heroin pills, I'm sure that would be used and abused just as much. *shrug*

Its a perceived difference between 'dirty street drugs' and 'clean pharmaceuticals'. People like to justify what they're doing by saying, "Well I'm not doing hard drugs, I'm just taking pills." The majority of those people don't realize that heroin acts the same way that those pharmaceuticals work.

People like to set lines for themselves, without that line in the sand they might see themselves as filthy opiate addicts. They don't want to see themselves that way so they draw a line that distinguishes them as 'not junkies' and they're able to continue with their addiction.

Just because I personally only use pharmaceutical opiates doesn't mean I look down on people who use heroin. Pharmaceuticals are just the most practical for me and what's around in my circle. If I found a heroin connection, I would use heroin. Although if I started using heroin I would feel like I'd need to be more cautious in my dosing. Pharmaceuticals are like heroin for lazy asses I guess. I also am not delusional and know full well I am addicted to these pills and if I don't have the pills I will get sick. Addiction is addiction. The great part about it is that there's all kinds. People have different DOCs and ROAs that they prefer. And us pharmaceutical users aren't competing for the heroin so there's more for you guys! :p

I have done both heroin, and prescription opiates. I prefer to stick to prescription pills because of the same reasons outlined by Rabidrabbit. With prescription pills, you know exactly what you are getting. This greatly reduces the risk of overdose. Other then knowing the exact dose that you are getting with prescription pills, you also know what other fillers/binders are in it. With heroin, you never really know unless it is tested at a lab.

With prescription pills, you are never in a position where you may be like "uh oh, I'm in trouble, this batch must be really strong so I may overdose. Now if I were getting pharm grade heroin, then maybe I would choose that over other opiates (although I still prefer oxycodone most of the time).

OP, I don't get what you mean by "why not get high the right way?" There are other opiates that are more potent than heroin. Also, people find different opiates more euphoric than others.

Since this is a harm reduction forum, you can't suggest that people use heroin. However, we can discuss the reasons why people choose to use prescription opiates instead of street heroin. I am going to edit the title to make this clearer.

It's strange because they're similar substances, prescription pain killers and heroin, but the two scenes are very, very different and that's the reason I preferred pharmaceutical pain killers to heroin (at one time, at least).

I mean, consider this, back in the day it seemed like everyone and their grandmother were into pills and everything was so nonchalant. I never had an actual pill "dealer." Hell, I'm sure that I've bought some of my pills from an actual friend's grandmother at one time.

But most of the time, a friend would call to tell me that "the oxys are in," money would change hands sometime on our lunch break, and I'd stop by his place a little later that night to pick them up and talk about movies, books or whatever. We'd blow a couple lines, chat it up, hang out, and it was just whatever...

If I found out about someone else selling their script, I would be sure to give him a phone call and we'd do the same thing. He never grimed me and I never grimed him. Everything was just so much less... grimy. Then the new, abuse-proof oxycontin formula came out...

I wasn't sick, but I didn't want the good times to end. I know it sounds stupid, but that's when I found myself, a little white boy just 5'9" and 130 lbs, waiting at a gas station downtown in the city for half an hour waiting for some huge black guy I'd never met before to serve me dope. If that's not a radical departure from how things were in the pill scene, man...

I now prefer dope over pharmaceutical pain killers, and I've come to love the dope scene in its own special way; because we're truly the castaways and cut-outs, and there's a certain culture, and we have certain rituals... But I still long for the good ol' days, the days when everything was just so much more laid back... the OC days.

But those days are long gone, man. Yeah, we've still got a few abusable pharms left, but things just aren't the same...

Nothing. I am a chipper and I prefer smack to everything else because its strong, it works, and I dont have to taste that horrible bitter flavor. Plus I dont have to fuck with CWEs because of the apap. My last cwe was on 19 5mg vicodin. My washwas about 350 mls of horrible bitter yack, and the high was over in like 3 hours... useless. Also, no more cough syrup. I have to drink 3 bottles of mytussin ac to even feel it, the smell alone makes me want to yarf.

Ive been doing prescription opiates since i was 14. Ive always been fascinated with the thought of doing heroin. Ive done H once but either it was just reallllllllllllly bad heroin or not heroin at all. I want to do heroin, I've always wanted to. But I don't know where to find it. I can't ask anyone i know since nobody i really hang out with does anything other then weed or drinking.

Is it a needle thing? Is it because you feel like less of an addict? Is it accepted more? What????
I personally think it is a waste. I do not want anyone going out and slamming of course, but if your going to get high on opiates, then get high the right way.
You know, for some people, doing it the right way involves not shooting up...
Iv'ing comes with so much more problems than snorting/popping pills or smoking smack, when I see my buddies who shoot up, are addicted to the needle and don't get high anymore unless they inject crazy amounts of dope, then myself who do other ROA and is still a chipper able to enjoy my DOC, i'm happy not to be in their shoes.. :\

availaility.

i can see my doctor and come home home with oxycodone, no questions asked, no chance of getting robbed nor all the risk from scoring off the black market.

i can acquire heroin but the cost is exponentially more expensive than when purchasing my oxy (and other benzos, etc) from my doctor.

i don't see any need to chase heroin when i can get oxycodone and lesser opioids from my doctor legally and at a fraction of the vostl

Heroins quality changes waayyy too much.Im on the methadone program now but I used to use OC's befor thay became ops cuz I knew what I was geting. Once thay changed I switched to heroin but I gotta say oxycodoin gave me energy when I shoot dope I get lazzy and drowzy I still prefere the high from ocs over that of h anyday of the week

1: dosage. I want to know exactly what amount of what I am putting in my body to limit the risk of disaster.

2: convenience. I would need to go out of my way and out of my comfort zone to procure heroin.

3: legality. Why get in trouble for possessing heroin when I can sit back and relax with my legally rx'd whatever that I managed to get?

If heroin became something prescribable (I think I just invented that word...) to me or at least available in a regulated form then by all means, GET IN MAH BELLY/VEINS!

I prefer heroin. But its hard to find, then you have to wait for the dealers to measure it up and shit. With pills I just have to ask someone who I know takes them, or gets them from someone all the time, and I have them in no time. The only thing that is always around is meth, I use to never want to try it, but recently Ive been thinking, it may not be to bad to try if I have enough to not crash 2 days later from just a little bit, Id want to make it worth the tired feeling.

Would do H if I could find it. Have always done pills because they used to be everywhere and were easy to get. It also depends on where you live. In Arizona I could get anything I wanted anytime, day or night. I just moved to Cleveland and in the two weeks I have been here I have managed to find one person selling two Perc 5mg. I do like the fact that pills contain a specified amount of your DOC thus the user does not have to worry about getting bad H and freaking out.

Personally I find both to be equally amazing and have no issue doing H one day and pills the next. Now that I am in Cleveland everything has changed. The chances of someone handing me the keys to their Ferrari for the night are about on par with the likelihood of finding pills or H.
