Hi BDD,
I have ADD,(pretty bad too) and am on 70mg of Vyvanse daily. My Mother controls my pills, because otherwise I would abuse them, though sometimes I can talk her into giving me an extra for rigorous studying purposes. I take off days once in awhile, as well as take 400-500mg of Magnesium citrate or chelated glyinate,(or pop an oxide for the lulz, jk, but seriously) and take a couple of tums or pop two Alka Seltzer Golds in some lukewarm water prior to dosing. I have heard that taking Delsym may work too, but to avoid dosing higher than 60ml
I have ordered Aniracetam, citocholine, and L-dopa pills. On top of that I ordered a book about supplement usage to aid me in my quest to obtain well-being and motivation, on top of concentration.
I have thought about asking my Dr. about Namenda, for the sole purpose of keeping my tolerance down to be able to stay on my dose or even drop down, yet have good results. I have also thought about asking him about augmenting with Strattera or Wellbutrin, but I don't know if there would be negative implications of taking either of these with the Vyvanse.
I also am wondering how much my anxiety and depression are contributing to my lack of focus, but these are well-managed since upping Cymbalta to 120mg and introducing 600mg of Gabapentin. These keep my depression low, and are the greatest anti-anxiety meds I have come across in my 10+ years of being treated. I am 22, in college to be a Psychologist, but am really just getting started since I had alcohol abuse problems, on top of major depression and untreated ADD with poorly treated anxiety. I feel really good right now, but I felt better 2 months ago on 60 mg of Vyvanse. Despite the adequate sense of well-being, I have low self esteem/worth and a lack of drive/motivation. I also procrastinate like no other, but once it's time to crack down, I ace every assignment. This is contributing to anxiety for sure, and maybe leading to a bit of arrogance, since I can do very well, with little effort and time.
I would like to know, basically, what can be done all in all, to reduce tolerance to Vyvanse, or potentiate it, for the purpose of a sustainable healthy dosage, and continued focus and sense of well-being.
I see a counselor once weekly, as well as have regular Doctor visits. These are aimed to improve my thought processes, as well as retrain my brain, and develop new, more responsible behaviors. I would like to get this tolerance issue figured out though, since that and the immature study behavior and lack of motivation, are the missing puzzle pieces that are holding me back. If I can solve this puzzle, I believe I can achieve great success, and be truly happy with a healthy, sustainable existence.
