This may sound like a dumb question but is there any way to potentiate seroquel? Would taking benadryl or an enzyme inhibitor like tagamet, (cimetidine) or grapefruit juice help?

The reason I am asking this question is because I've been taking 300mg of seroquel to sleep every night for about a year now and 300mg just isn't making me fall asleep anymore (I have terrible insomnia and can't sleep at all without the seroquel). I've discussed this with my doctor and she is unwilling to raise my dose of seroquel or put me on another medication. Any help will be appreciated, thanks.

Unfortunately it sounds to me like its time to find a new doctor. A good doctor would either be willing to raise your dose within a reasonable amount because seroquel isn't really a drug that's abused, or they would be willing to let you try something different. Unfortunately im not sure what would potentiate this drug, but likely anything that would won't help much for long.

^THIS.

You're just going to keep escalating your doses of whatever you take now. If you add in more anticholinergics (such as diphenhydramine), you're just going to get more side effects at higher doses and the side effects will further inhibit your sleep, so you'll have to take more and on and on.

You need to find more sustainable ways to manage your insomnia. Massive doses of sedatives clearly aren't helping.

In my experience taking anti-cholinergics with seroquel only increases the anti-histaminic side effects of seroquel. The dry mouth gets worse, i get restless legs and it makes it harder to sleep.

I would say find a new doctor honestly. I find that the sedative effects of seroquel go away after a few weeks which is ok if your taking it for bipolar like i do but it sucks if your taking it for sleep.
