Benzos potentate k-pins

I have been on Clonazepam 1mg per night for the last 9 months. It is helping me sleep but early waking is becoming a problem for me. I guess I am getting tolerant to the K-pins. I have read that grapefruit juice can potentate Benzos so last night chugged half a litre down with my 1mg K-pins.

Lately I have been waking around 4am but this morning managed to sleep in till 6am. My problem is this I have high cholesterol and take Simvastatin each night to help lower my cholesterol, and protect me from having a Heart attack. I have read the information leaflet that comes with the Simvastatin and it says on the leaflet WARNING DO NOT DRINK GRAPEFRUIT JUICE while taking this medication, anyone out there know why? (Obviously I didn’t take my statin last night)

Are there any other remedies that can potentate my k-pins I know about Tagamet but can’t get them off my doctor? Are there any other things out there that can potentate benzos. Many thanks

The same reason that grapefruit juice potentiates some benzos is why that warning is on your simvastatin. It contains flavanoids that inhibit the enzymes responsible for each of their breakdown. This leads to higher concentration in the blood and increased risk for adverse events.

I've yet to hear of anything that actually potentiates benzodiazepines. Enzyme inhibition may elongate half lives and times of elimination but do you ever even notice a difference? Whole lot of work for zero reward, potentiating benzodiazepines...

I personally think all potentiation is futile. Well maybe pharmacodynamic interactions make some difference but trying to play with the kinetics is useless at best and dangerous at worse. It is doubtful gfj has any affect on clonazepam anyway, but I wouldnt mess with gfj and simvastatin though.

I know you didn't really ask about this but I'm going to let you in on a little secret here........Statin drugs are a major FAIL! They do not prevent heart attacks like your Dr tells you. Smart scientist who are willing to research the negative side of statin drugs have found that cholesterol isn't the major cause of heart attacks it was once thought to be. 75% of all people who have heart attacks have normal cholesterol I read somewhere. Inflammation likely plays a bigger role in heart attacks than cholesterol. This inflammation can be measured by C-reactive protein. Imo it has become mostly about keeping alive the money grab that these drug companies have going because every person over 50 yrs of age is probably going to be an ideal candidate for statin drugs. Most Dr's don't even know anything about the negative implications of taking statin drugs so do some research on your own so you can educate your cardiologist. Taking a statin drug basically eliminates the bodies supply of CoQ10 which is an essential part of cell metabolism and energy production in the body. An interesting fact is that there was a plan for a statin that would be combined with CoQ10 to help negate some of this problem but at the last minute the drug company killed the idea because it would force them to admit that statins eliminate the bodies natural supply of CoQ10. The point has come to where you pretty much can't trust American doctors because they have been taught by medical education programs that are majorly financed by the big drug companies. Ofc. I'm not a doctor so don't just stop taking your medication but I do suggest researching more about it so that you can get both sides of the story before deciding if it is right for you. If you aren't already taking CoQ10 I would go ahead and try to add that if at all possible and also there's a natural cholesterol lowering substance called red rice yeast which is an alternative to taking statin drugs. One study I just found below is about how the brain is affected by these cholesterol lowering drugs and links have been made to dementia and Alzheimer's. I agree that pretty much nothing makes benzos more potent. I myself have drank like 1/2 a gallon before & all it did was give me HORRIBLE acid reflux. If it did make (I think it was with diazapam ) them more potent, I didn't notice. Not enough reward with all the work IMO.

Red yeast rice contains lovastatin. And while the use of statins in prevention of heart attacks may not be true, their role in preventing heart disease is pretty clearly established.

Yeah but the problem is that basically every study that "proves" their role in preventing heart disease is funded by the companies that make money off the sale of these statins do you not see a problem with that? A great majority of all of the U.S. trained medical professionals got their education at a med school that is subsidized/funded by huge pharm companies and the U.S. is all about "cure" and nothing about prevention. There are very few scientist/Dr.'s who actually have studied negative impacts of taking statins and obviously this is because all the funding for research has a hidden agenda behind it which is to prove their medications are playing a positive role in heart disease prevention. No companies will finance studies to disprove their role because let's face it there isn't any money to be made from the results. Not going to argue my point anymore but I will say I wouldn't recommend anyone in my family to use statin drugs after reading the things I've read about them.
