I didn't see a "post-music" thread. I didn't look all that hard though...:\

I thought we could discuss and share some post-rock, post-metal or post-punk bands we all dig. Even some shoegaze, why not? I find all these styles to have some commonalities, expansive production, repetition, unconventional riffing, unusual song structures....

My favorite bands would have to be God is an Astronaut, Mogwai, Joy Division, Godspeed You!Black Emperor, Alcest (shoegaze/black metal), Swans (love their more recent post-rock stuff) Pelican, Tortoise, etc. I'd be keen to hear some more really dark and obscure post-punk is anyone has any.

I am listening to the most recent God is An Astronaut album, Helios/Erebus, released a week or so ago. Highly reccomend it, quite dark and with an air of mystery. Awesome band.

This song rules, If These Tree's Could Talk- Barren Lands of the Modern Dinosaur. I hear huge elements of black metal in the tremelo riffing here plus a superb atmosphere:

So lets share some post-xxx genres :)

I live in north Brooklyn. This place is a cesspit for all things doom, sludge, drone, stoner, space, and of course, post.

Ppl shit their pants when Deafheaven comes here. Sannhet sells out every club. Pelican is a household name. Neurosis is our elevator music. People around here actually prefer the newer Enslaved material.

Saw Wolvserpent for the first time tonight, pretty rad performance. Fell Voices actually made me think I was going insane for a minute. Ufomammut had a killer show here a few weeks ago. Conan packed the house. Mountain God sounds a lot better live than on their album. Yob played 2 back to back shows that both sold out (fuck yah I had tickets to both shows), theyre just that awesome.

Also tonight I saw Mutilation Rites (mostly blackish metal, but some post elements) and Svart Crown (French Blackened Death Thrash metal, but also some post metal moments). Crowbar is here Tuesday but I might be too lazy to go out...

^I wish that sort of metal was played around Melbourne. Well, it is, but not much and the rest I never hear off. :\

Re: Enslaved. Every new album, I like for the first 4-5 spins and think they are great and wonderful andthen suddenly NEVER want to listen to it again, and rarely do. They are just really bland IMO. Not sure if you will agree, but I think they always were except for Eld.

I can't get into Deafheaven, or most post-black metal. Despite all the reasons that I should enjoy it, I rarely do. It often just drags. I tried to get into the Icelandic band, Solstafir, but they really bored me. I can't ever really hear the metal in it. But I dig Neurosis (Through Silver is so unsettling for me), a bit of Jesu and Isis (who are my favorite post-metal/sludge band).

Good post metal-

On postrock, the new Godspeed has been a slow grower. I like the droney aspects. :)

All of The Ocean Collective's discog is great. I like Precambrian, Aeolian, and Pelagial a lot.

I dont really like post black metal much. Im still all about 2nd wave. Post metal is just insanely popular where I live. I wish it was still "thrash till death" but those days seem long gone.

never heard of The Ocean but digging that Pelagial album. can't say i'm really knowledgeable about post-* but The Shape of Punk To Come is one of my all-time favorite albums. here's some new Refused:

^I hardly listen to any punk or hardcore but I enjoyed that a lot actually. Reminded me of the heavier bits in Cult of Luna's stuff.

More post metal- Neurosis: Given to the Rising.

Love this album, especially the end of the first track. I stole it for one of my own compositions actually ;)

I think these guys straddle sorta elecronic with some psychedlic and post rock. Really good band IMO.

Been a post-rock fan since, like, 2002, 2003... I'm glad "post" music is getting so much more popular, but on the other hand I'm less hipster than I used to be because of it.

But I'll allow it.

65daysofstatic hasn't been mentioned yet, have they? They're pretty awesome. On the note of post-rock getting more popular, apparently they're doing the soundtrack for that No-Man Sky game. I haven't heard it yet but I'm really interested.
