I got my wisdom teeth removed on Monday, and I haven't been smoking anything since. Right now, my left side is alright, my right side is swollen, hurts when I touch it (just a dull sore feeling) and the right side doesn't open very well (although there's no blood in my spit anymore, thank god). I'm wondering if smoking weed (via bong, not using a bowl or spliff) will irritate the sore and if it's a stupid idea to smoke (i don't have enough to make something to eat, i used a bowl-sized amount to make a leary biscuit last night and it didn't do shit).

By the way, I'm not talking about using the weed as a pain-killer, the sore-ness doesn't really bother me at all, this is basically me asking because I'm bored as hell and feel like getting stoned.

well...i did it when i got mine out. i also developed a nasty infection which gave me 103 fever. not sure if its related.

leary biscuits work. not sure what you did wrong

Did you do it when you first got them out?

I had a fever the second day and was throwing up left and right because of all the blood I swallowed the night before.

And I probably didn't use enough weed, just a bowl-sized amount.

When I was meeting with the doctor to schedule having mine removed I was given an information packet that advised against any smoking for a full week afterwards as smoking will slow the healing time and restrict blood flow which the wound needs to stay clean and heal.

i got a tooth out on this years april.20th, 10 in the morning
i managed not to smoke s**t loads of weed until 4:20pm
the next morning (and the 2 weeks after) my tooth hurts like a b***h

Interesting. I had all 4 of my Wisdom Teeth removed in one sitting. The next day I helped my dad finish the porch we were building. Eh must of been the lucky one. Well I didn't smoke for about a week. After that I was fine. Besides I had plenty of Vicodin to keep me from being bored. :-D

Do NOT smoke anything. Or for that matter don't cook with weed either, getting high on cannabis will make your mouth dry anyways, you should try to avoid that at any cost.

Smoking with open wounds in your mouth may very well lead to dry socket, which is a very painful infection. Its cureable fairly quickly but I am told its extremely painful.

One of my friends smoked like 15 minutes out of the operating room, he promptly had dry socket the next day.

My other friend waited like 4 days and then began smoking again and he was fine.

I wouldnt suggest smoking a shitload when you first come back though.

Good luck.

I'm following your advice. I'm going to the doctor tomorrow for a post-op check-up, I won't ask him directly, but he should give me enough information to tell me as to what my condition is and I can make an educated decision from that information.

you can just ask him if it's alright to smoke cig, but he would probably said not, but ask him how your wounds is and when you can smoke cig

dry socket is more likely if you smoke cigarettes regularly, and frequently. it means your mouth produces less saliva overall and so the blood clot covering the wound will shrink, and bone will be exposed (yuck). the act of smoking will cause your mouth to get dry, but it won't make the overall condition any better or worse on average.

so yeah, you can smoke, but make sure you drink water afterwards so your mouth doesn't get dry. i smoked same day and several times a day after having two wisdom teeth pulled (separate occasions) and had no problems, but also, i do not smoke cigarettes.

I had a dry socket from having one of my wisdom teeth removed. I didn't get it from smoking, however. You really don't want a dry socket. It is some of the worst pain I have ever felt.

When my girlfriend got her wisdom teeth out last year (4 bony impactions - ouch!), she was on 20mg of hydrocodone every 4 hours, and it wasn't helping her much other than keeping the pain bearable. As soon as her mom left, she convinced me to let her smoke. At the time I didn't have a vaporizer, but I lit a well-hitting pipe very lightly, just browning it so as to not get any harsh smoke, and she inhaled without putting any real suction on the pipe end. The result was that she got a few decent hits without hurting anything at all, and immediately she felt so much better than she began acting totally normala and forgot not to talk too much and ended up straining her stitches a little. She said it helped about 100 times more than the opiates did.

Still, I wouldn't condone it ncessarily. If you're REALLY careful not to put any pressure on it (shotgunning a hit would work the best perhaps, or inhaling a bong load without producing it), then maybe give it a try. A vaporizer would be best, the Volcano the best of all since no pressure is necessary there. After all, vapor does far less damage than hot smoke.

Just don't hurt your wounds. Getting high is NOT worth fucking up the healing process of wisdom teeth removal, trust me.

Yeah, the pain should really subside with cannabis, supposedly it has pretty good analgesic effects concerning the teeth and such, but it also has it's disadvantages. For one, saliva production is notably less while high, you quicly get a dry mouth, secondly, cannabis fucks with the immune system a bit, smoking it also kills off certain bacteria in the mouth, which might prove to be harmful in these cases.

A friend's doctor of his told him 2 weeks after wisdom teeh removal.
It's a good idea to do 2 weeks, just in case.

I'm glad I hadn't even started smoking when I got mine removed.

A dry socket causes some pretty intense pain.

I waited 3 days after I got my wisdom teeth out before smoking some cannabis.
I enjoyed the combination of the T3s prescribed for it and cannabis.

The best idea is to follow everyone's advice and wait 1-2 weeks before smoking anything.

If you decide to smoke some use a method that causes the least amount of suction. Because this can cause the wounds to open up as suction pulls everything in your mouth towards the throat. Also avoid straws for the same reason.
Drink plenty of water and don't share joints or whatever with others.

One very important thing is to use that syringe like device, that shoots a stream of water, to clean out all the sockets.
