I like Massive Attack more overall. Portishead can be a bit of a downer for me but there's a time and place for it.

i chose portishead because i have never listened to massive attack.

portishead sure does bring back memories though. I remember when i first started tripping 9 years ago and i had all these mix cd's for my trips, at least 1 portishead track would be on each cd.

good times.

edit: i just found out from reading this thread that the genre is called trip hop. Thats awesome. can i ask why though? It's not very hip-hopish, though it is trippy.

edit 2: cananyone recomend some good massive attack tracks?

^ Inertia Creeps, Angel, Teardrop, Future Proof, Butterfly Caught, Dissolved Girl, Safe From Harm... those are a few I'm fond of that immediately come to mind ;)

^ I've never forgiven that little bitch for bailing out in the middle of a show, bitching about the venue, when I went and saw him back in '98 or '99. Good music though. But I do not abide prima donnas (especially when they bail when I'M watching them, lol).
Luckily Whale was playing as their opening act so the show was more than worth it anyway.

Harsh. But Fair.

Massive Attack thou hard choice,
an'
was pro'lly push'd over by Thorn,
Horace Andy,
& The 'No Protection' Mad Professor Album.

It got cheat'd.

Thou I do advise ev'ryone
to try an' see
the (8mm?) entire video
of
Live in NYC Portishead.

Beth never took a cigarette outta her hand,
an' their tour DJ at the time,
Andy Smith,
has done some mad werks.

He once rock'd up in Sydney,
an' play a set with no announcement,
inna small venue,
fo' no explain'd reason.

Mad Shit.

PEACE
UnS
:)

i voted portishead, but it was a tough decision for two reasons:

1. i think massive attack is awesome
2. "third" was such a shitty album that i lost some respect for portishead

if massive attack would have recorded more tracks with elizabeth fraser performing guest vocals this might have been a stalemate, but in the final analysis beth gibbons and her haunting voice give portishead an undeniable edge.

massive attack, although both groups are equally amazing in different ways. massive attack just hits harder and sounds more nasty, but at the end of the day it comes down to what i'm in the mood for hearing and i like hearing massive attack more often than portishead. listen to both more than almost anything else - both can be played loudly, softly, or somewhere in between and give chills depending on the mood.

i agree with this. massive attack is definitely sexier music. portishead is more appropriate for considering suicide on a rainy day. i guess my vote exposes my true emo nature.
