Hello.

I just recently decided to try poppy tea for pain relief after bashing both knees into concrete.

Due to my opiate addiction history, my doc doesn't like to RX pain relief.

Anyways...

I went the standard route. Bought a bunch of seeds. Washed them. Drank the mud flavored juice.

When I do this, where my knees are most injured (like scrapes) becomes EXTREMELY itchy. I am fully versed in the opiate itch but not an itch so bad I wanted to take cheese grinder to my skin.

This happened more than once in a row so I'm sure it's related to the poppy tea.

Anyone else experience this? Is it just how things are?

Personally I can't find poppy tea addictive yet thank goodness. That itch that shows up is just so bad.

Get some diphenhydramine

Opioids tend to make wounds (cuts/abrasions/incisions) that are healing more itchy. Morphine/codeine are particularly itch inducing. Some diphenhydramine might help.

Would the newer antihistamines work?

I can't take benedryl. You know how some people get really bad rls during detox from benedryl? Well I get that awful rls any time I take benedryl. It's awful!

Sure, you could try cetirizine

Certirizine is one of my favorite 2nd gen antihistamines. A metabolite of hydroxyzine (fave 1st gen), with really low antimuscarinic effects (which cause rls), and a touch of nice sedation at raised doses.

Though any non-drowsy antihistamine that works for you should deal with the itch, as those drugs are kept in the body away from the brain, by proteins in the blood brain barrier which remove them from the brain compartment.

Be careful cause poppy is very addictive. I read lots of people struggling with this addiction
