Police Brutality Thread

A fact is something that can be proven true.

Derek Chauvin is guilty of murdering George Floyd.

This can be proven by the verdict that was delivered by the jury yesterday and entered into the court filings by the judge.

You're either being pedantic or intentionally obtuse. I have no patience for the latter (which I suspect) but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt... I'm going to assume you're being pedantic.

If you are guilty in the eyes of God, you know it in your heart.

You need to define three terms in you recent posts for me to understand what you're saying.

1. True
2. Proof
3. Fact

It is really kind of impossible to boil down my statement any further.

The sky is blue.
Chauvin murdered Floyd.

Both statements are equally true.

I mean, no, it's two people who've said it now.
There is either a factual version of guilt or there isn't.

There's certainly a legal definition of guilt, that often relies on fancy lawyers and (arguably) race... right, that's someone's argument. I forget who. Anyway...

Unless you (or @alasdairm) believe nobody has ever been found guilty of anything they are not guilty of... I don't see your point.

You are being petty.

I don't have to explain this to you.

There is no clever way to avoid the fact that there are two obvious versions of guilt.

Now that you've googled the definition of guilt, you are one step closer to finding the truth.

If there are two versions of guilt

A) one definition unquestionably applies to him and
B) there is more evidence than not that the second definition applies to him

what can we infer about him?

I'm too sceptical about people to wait. I've spent too much time waiting. People are selfish. Doesn't matter what their skin colour is. My jury is out on that one.

People criticized @PriestTheyCalledHim because he said the Floyd family would blow their money.

It's easy to look at that statement and think he's being racist, but maybe he's just being honest?

It has nothing to do with race. If George Floyd was exactly the same guy and he was white, I'd have exactly the same opinion of him and I'd wager that applies to Priest also.

I honestly don't think people care that much about skin colour. They only care because - for example - they are apprehensive about people who are Black if they are (statistically) more likely to commit crime. But, so are rich Black people. I'm male and I am more concerned about being attacked by another male. That doesn't make me sexist.
Thanks, anyway if his family had the choice between having George Floyd back alive, if they had to give all of the $27 million back, or keeping all of the money all $27,000,000 USD, what do you think they would choose?

I've seen people more emotionally affected by parking fines than this guy was when found guilty.

I wouldn't be surprised if he still believes he can call in a favour, have some strings pulled and get this issue quietly resolved.
Funny you should say that. Last night before I fell asleep I started thinking what if this was all for show. What if Chauvin was escorted to his jail cell, waited until all the suits went home, and then was somehow slipped out the back door to go regain his life somewhere else. His cop buddies could all say they have no idea how he got out. I mean I know that didn't happen but it went through my mind.

The next Republican President* or Governor may seek to pardon him. Trump pardoned uniformed murderers, so there is precedent.

*as if there’s gonna ever be one 😂

We all know he has no hope with Biden. I didn't know until yesterday that he visited the Floyd family back in May 2020 and has kept in touch with them throughout the whole ordeal. Not making a political statement and don't want to go off topic. Just a new factoid I learned yesterday. In 8 weeks when sentencing is handed down we will start hearing the appeals that Nelson is furiously writing as we speak.

That look when a white cop goes to jail for a narcotic homicide instead of you.
