Police Brutality Thread

I need to chime in here with something that only struck me now. And odd seeing as I posted a link to this earlier this morning but, as I say, only occurred to me now.

Mr. Floyd’s family received a settlement of $27 MILLION USD. Say that a few times. Then think on the below.

@mr peabody has a thread going in CEPS on the topic of tiny home projects and keeps it updated. Do yourselves a favor and go look at how many homes are built and homeless, addicts, veterans, etc. are given another chance and a leg up in life and only for a few HUNDRED thousand USD per project. Note: not per home but per project!

There’s actually something really really wrong with this. I have no idea what the situation is in Minneapolis but logic tells me that there are bound to be homeless, addicts, veterans etc. on the street and that just need another shot at life. Hell. Maybe even somebody like Mr. Floyd was in this category.

@xxsicknessxx picked up on this settlement also earlier today. Sorry. I did not want to quote your post i.e. am trying to keep race out of this. But post noted. Thank you for the post.

In addition: there’s the money the public has donated. And of course who is getting the money for his biography?

I sure hope his family give some thought to this.

It’s mind blowing actually. And then we have a thirteen year old shot dead, police officer in shit again, but I will bet you that thirteen year old wouldn’t have been on the street getting up to shit if he had a nice home and family or mentor and hope and some pride. And if not him: I’m sure there are many others to which this would be applicable.

Or am I being way too idealistic

Large settlements like these always boggle ones mind. How they come up with dollar amounts in settlements I do not know. We can only hope that the Floyd family will share it with their neighborhood and improve their own status. I believe in my heart that they will put the money to good use and I also believe they would give the money back in a heartbeat to have George sitting at the dinner table tonight.

You make solid points. None of us ( I hope ) will ever be put into a situation where we have to accept money for compensation of a lost life of a loved one. I guess we won't know how the Floyd family uses the money unless they wish to disclose that. And yes, Mr Peabodys thread on tiny homes is very good and I enjoyed reading it.

Of course anyone 'can' be successful, but it is statistically more difficult (not biologically man, fuck) for some communities than others. That is because america is a racist colonialist state with a flawed economic system. People alive today remember segregation and Jim crow. To think all of that went away overnight is flawed and silly.

This is true, only a dumbass would deny that there is institutionalised prejudice in law not sure when the blackfellas there ceased having laws different for them but it would not be in the youth of today's generation, not that I'm aware of anyway.

Itll be about another 50-80 years until class is not really a race thing but just what wealth and easy opportunities are available, probably still defined by locality etc.

Mind you, these days kids can't seem to grasp that change is never instant and has been going on with far more upheaval than they could imagine just to get to current times.

There will always be trailer park trash or ghetto areas. Life isn't fair, most people simply survive day to day and call that success.

Meh. I decided this tragedy was a catalyst for renewal of attention to the police racism issue like Rodney King was.

Media don't cover all crimes and cop incidents equally, there is most def more hits on social media with # racism of BLM, media do control the narrative, who knows if it matches reality.

Its only a racist crime if the death had racist intent from Chauvin.

He knew he was being filmed and had to be alpha male in front of rookies, Floyd was being belligerent, Chauvin did what he did to assert dominance like a caveman, totally out of line with training and yeah he's guilty. Its def a bloke thing, guy should not be a cop.

Not sure if he was a racist, maybe he is.

Idc what charge, it would be a mistake to convict one way just because a mob will get snippy, its not their decision, rioting after the fact isn't what the family want, and would backfire.

It was bad form getting the civil suit before the actual trial imo.

That side of the law doesn't exist here and its a good thing.

It would have been good to see a good portion of moneys to go to set up compulsory police further training or some sort of thing to benefit the community affected.

Would have thought the individual cops would have been liable rather than the City but the pay off would definitely not just be a pay off to the family, it will probably go towards quelling violence.

Priest: dont write the family off just yet, its clear the cop wouldn't even get arrested without the media coverage of the riots, who knows what they'll do.

I dont think its a great idea to have a pay out at all, seems really creepy.

if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck.

q.e.d @Zephyn

sure - at least they'd get their day in court.

It is not 'racist' to tell the truth, or say how George Floyd was a pitiful excuse for a 'father', hated women, and how the family/lawyers got way too much money that should have been spent to rebuild the city that Floyd's family advocated for burn loot murder, antifa, and residents of the hood and slums to destroy in riots. 8)

^ i am, for better or worse, and I can't condemn anyone who burned down the police stations, I thank them, as it got peoples attentions.

So, I missed something here.

Did Floyd's family get a 27 million dollar settlement on top of the 14 million from his GoFundMe pages?

What is the reasoning here?

I'm pretty sure if Mr. Floyd happened to be alive, he wouldn't contribute 41 million dollars to his family... even if he had 50 lifetimes to do it.

Any violence against humans i do not condone, and im not really condoning that either. I'm more for massive strike, although less plausible. I don't see why we aren't rioting for Healthcare etc.

Good, maybe this time they will target the banks instead of small local businesses
They already did that, burning and destroying banks, black owned businesses, places where black Americans worked, local businesses, etc. The USA media, and idiot racist leftist politicians ignored it, and claimed it was 'mostly peaceful'. 😂8)

...am I missing something here? How tf would you ever know what type of father he was or how he felt about women? You are looking for any excuse to justify floyd's death, and you're reaching. Are you really that thrilled about all this man? Kinda dark if so

His hands were both up, no gun, up, on video, before he was shot.

yep.

sadly, you're clearly wasting your time...

Or getting stoned on heroin, or smoking crack rocks.

is that based on anything other than your own assumptions and bias? can you substantiate this with anything? anything at all?

He was holding a gun and threatening the police, and he certainly lived up to his nickname, and fulfilled his potential of being a 'lil homicide'.

The majority of Latin Americans both in the USA and other countries really dislike and hate cholos, gang bangers, hispanic/latin People in gangs, etc. It is the same with the majority of black people in the USA, they hate and do not like blacks who are thugs, in gangs, etc.

If you are in a gang, or have a gun or weapon in your hands or point it at police no matter what your race is, do not be surprised when you get shot.
